Cybersecurity Manager Hands-On Technical Lead

Key Responsibilities

• Lead cybersecurity projects across distributed IT teams and business locations.

• Serve as a cybersecurity advisor to technology leaders and business stakeholders.

• Identify security risks and develop practical mitigation and remediation plans.

• Coordinate security assessments, audits, vulnerability reviews, and risk analyses.

• Ensure that vulnerabilities and audit findings are addressed within established timelines.

• Support incident response, business continuity, disaster recovery, and cyber-resilience initiatives.

• Guide the implementation and ongoing improvement of enterprise security controls.

• Support endpoint security, network security, identity and access management, email security, cloud security, vulnerability management, and security monitoring.

• Help standardize cybersecurity tools, processes, and practices across business units.

• Monitor security performance, compliance status, vulnerabilities, and risk trends.

• Prepare security posture and risk reports for senior technology leadership.

• Promote cybersecurity awareness and effective security practices throughout the organization.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

• At least 10 years of experience in cybersecurity, information security, network security, or enterprise IT infrastructure.

• Experience supporting complex, multi-site or geographically distributed environments.

• Strong knowledge of enterprise security technologies and controls.

• Experience with network security, endpoint protection, identity and access management, cloud security, vulnerability management, and security-monitoring platforms.

• Experience applying recognized cybersecurity frameworks and industry security practices.

• Ability to evaluate complex security risks and translate findings into practical solutions.

• Strong project leadership, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.

• Ability to lead initiatives without relying on direct reporting authority.

• Willingness to work in a hybrid environment in the northwest Chicago suburbs.

Preferred Qualifications

• CISSP, CISM, Security+, or another recognized cybersecurity certification.

• Experience supporting security governance, audits, regulatory compliance, or enterprise risk programs.

• Experience working with infrastructure modernization, cloud adoption, or digital-transformation initiatives.

Important Role Clarification

Although this position carries a manager-level title, it is currently a hands-on individual-contributor role without direct reports. The successful candidate must be comfortable combining technical security work with project leadership, governance, and cross-functional coordination.
