Power BI & SharePoint Engineer

Varmoda is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Power BI & SharePoint Engineer to support a Microsoft Power Platform application for a public-sector client. This is a remote role on our technology and application services team. We are looking for a hands-on, self-driven professional with strong data modeling, reporting and SharePoint administration skills who can keep financial reporting accurate, secure and ready for audit.

The ideal candidate has experience maintaining Power BI datasets and reports, putting row-level security on sensitive financial data, and managing SharePoint Online permissions, versioning and retention. The role also serves as the cross-trained backup to the Power Platform Lead Engineer, so working knowledge of Power Apps and Power Automate is essential.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Maintain and enhance Power BI datasets, semantic models and reports that support financial reporting and reconciliation, including DAX measures and Power Query transformations.
• Configure and maintain row-level security (RLS) so sensitive financial data is visible only to authorized users.
• Monitor on-premises data gateways and scheduled refreshes, fix refresh failures, and promote report and dataset changes through controlled development, test and production stages.
• Administer SharePoint Online sites and libraries, including permissions, versioning, retention settings and content lifecycle, so application records stay audit-ready.
• Maintain the project's documentation library in SharePoint (architecture overview, deployment runbook, data dictionary, release notes, reconciliation map and regression test suite) and update it with every release.
• Serve as the cross-trained backup Power Platform engineer: shadow the Lead Engineer, review every release, and keep working access so coverage continues during absences.
• Support regression testing and user acceptance testing (UAT) for changes that affect reporting outputs, and validate results against prior reconciled data.

Relevant Experience

• 5+ years of hands-on Power BI development (data modeling, DAX, Power Query, RLS, gateway administration).
• 5+ years of SharePoint Online administration and development, including permissions, versioning and retention.
• 2+ years working with Power Apps and Power Automate in production environments.
• Experience supporting financial, accounting or other compliance-sensitive reporting for government or regulated clients.
• Experience with release discipline across development, test and production environments.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics or a related field.

• Power BI: Desktop, Service, DAX, Power Query (M), row-level security, deployment pipelines, on-premises data gateway.
• SharePoint Online and SharePoint Server, Microsoft 365 admin center, PnP PowerShell.
• Power Apps (canvas and model-driven), Power Automate, Microsoft Dataverse.
• SQL Server and T-SQL for data validation.
• Azure DevOps or Git for version control.
• Microsoft Purview retention and compliance features.

Certifications

• Required: Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300).
• Preferred: Microsoft 365 Certified: Developer Associate; Microsoft Certified: Power Platform Functional Consultant Associate (PL-200); Microsoft Certified: Power Platform Fundamentals (PL-900).
