ServiceNow CMDB Technical Architect

Technical Skills:

 Role Description: 

Role Overview: Defines and governs CMDB architecture within ServiceNow, bringing deep technical and data architecture expertise to bridge ServiceNow capabilities with enterprise infrastructure and monitoring ecosystems. Partners with the ServiceNow Project Lead to guide architecture and design decisions, ensuring best practices and scalable implementation. Supports early-stage CMDB development, establishing foundational structures, governance, and ingestion patterns.

 Combines ServiceNow platform expertise with hands-on technical architecture experience across AWS, observability platforms (Splunk, Dynatrace), identity management (Okta), incident management (PagerDuty), and PostgreSQL. Understands how business processes and technical architecture impact one another, and leverages AI-driven automation (NowAssist) to streamline CMDB operations.

Key Responsibilities:

CMDB Architecture & Data Model:

·         Define and maintain CMDB architecture aligned with ServiceNow best practices and CSDM

·         Partner with Project Lead on platform architecture decisions

·         Review epics and user stories to ensure alignment with CMDB strategy

 Enterprise Architecture & Infrastructure Integration:

·         Liaison between enterprise architecture teams and ServiceNow implementation

·         Design integrations with AWS services (CloudWatch, EC2, S3, Lambda)

·         Define data ingestion from observability platforms (Splunk, Dynatrace)

·         Establish integration patterns with Okta for user/access data

·         Design PagerDuty-ServiceNow alerting and incident workflows

 CMDB Governance & Data Architecture:

·         Establish governance standards: class structure, identification/reconciliation rules, data quality controls

·         Design IRE rules for accurate CI identification and deduplication

·         Leverage PostgreSQL/ServiceNow database expertise to optimize CMDB performance and data integrity

·         Define infrastructure governance policies and architectural guardrails

 AI-Driven Automation:

·         Leverage NowAssist for automated CMDB maintenance, reconciliation, and quality checks

·         Identify AI/ML opportunities to improve CMDB accuracy and reduce manual effort

 Platform Design & Implementation:

·         Ensure scalability, maintainability, and performance

·         Validate implementation approaches and enforce best practices

·         Identify and mitigate architectural risks

 Project Support:

·         Support backlog grooming/sprint planning with technical oversight

·         Provide technical leadership and mentorship

Qualifications:

ServiceNow Platform:

·         Proven ServiceNow CMDB implementation and administration experience

·         Deep understanding of ITIL, ITSM, and IT architecture principles

·         Experience with ServiceNow Discovery, Service Mapping, Integration Hub, and Now Assist

·         CMDB certification preferred

 Technical Architecture & Infrastructure:

·         AWS services expertise (CloudWatch, EC2, S3, Lambda, IAM, VPC)

·         Splunk (querying, data ingestion, log analysis) and Dynatrace (APM, infrastructure monitoring)

·         PagerDuty or similar incident management platforms

·         Okta and identity/access management integration patterns

 Data Architecture & Database:

·         Strong data modeling expertise: objects, relationships, data structures

·         PostgreSQL experience: query optimization, schema design, performance tuning

·         Database design, integration patterns, data quality management

·         Data governance frameworks

 Core Competencies:
