Summary

Karen Clark & Company (KCC) seeks a highly qualified Wind Engineer to join the Model Development Team to work on developing advanced catastrophe reference models. In this position, you will work closely with other scientists and engineers to develop and manage the vulnerability module of KCC's tropical and extratropical cyclone catastrophe models.

Expected Salary Range: $90,000-$100,000

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain the wind vulnerability module, and perform validation tests on model loss estimates
  • Conduct literature surveys of property damage from past windstorms and stay current on the latest research on the wind vulnerability of buildings
  • Collect and analyze insurance claims and loss data, develop insights to apply in model development
  • Evaluate building codes, building inventories, and construction practices by country, region, and state
  • Conduct post-event field surveys after major events
  • Prepare technical documentation and presentations for internal and external audiences

Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Wind Engineering, Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, and/or any discipline with research focus on wind vulnerability
  • Experience in performance-based design, probabilistic and stochastic risk modeling, and reliability analysis applied to structural engineering
  • Experience in numerical modeling and scientific programming using Python, R, C#, or similar languages, with demonstrated data mining and statistical analysis skills
  • Strong skills in technical writing, documentation, and delivering presentations to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to travel within the US or internationally with little advance notice
