Summary

The Senior Network Hardware Technician is responsible for advanced installation, configuration, diagnostics, and lifecycle management of network hardware across data centers, enterprise campuses, and distributed sites. This role serves as an escalation point for complex technical issues, mentors junior team members, and collaborates with network architects on infrastructure planning and deployment.

 

Job Description

  • Advanced Hardware Deployment: Install, configure, and optimize routers, switches, firewalls, wireless controllers, and optical transport equipment.
  • Network Diagnostics: Lead root cause analysis and resolution of complex Layer 1–3 network issues.
  • Infrastructure Lifecycle Management: Oversee hardware refreshes, firmware upgrades, and vendor coordination.
  • Data Center Operations: Perform rack and stack installations, cable management, patching, and structured cabling oversight.
  • Performance Optimization: Monitor and tune network hardware to maximize throughput, minimize latency, and ensure reliability.
  • Security & Compliance: Ensure network hardware configurations meet organizational security policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and training to mid-level and junior network technicians.
  • Documentation: Maintain network diagrams, asset inventories, and change management documentation.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in network hardware engineering or data center operations
  • Expert-level knowledge of Cisco, Juniper, Arista, HPE, or similar networking platforms
  • Strong understanding of Layer 1–3 networking, including routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP), VLANs, and Spanning Tree Protocol (STP)
  • Experience with fiber optic infrastructure, QSFP/SFP transceivers, and structured cabling
  • Ability to interpret rack elevations, wiring diagrams, and network schematics
  • Familiarity with ITIL practices, change management processes, and ticketing systems
  • Preferred Certifications:
    • Microsoft Certification
    • CCNP
    • JNCIP
    • Arista ACE
    • CompTIA Network+
    • Data Center certifications
