SAP ILM Data Archiving Consultant

Position Summary
Client is seeking an experienced SAP ILM Data Archiving Consultant to design, implement, and support SAP Information Lifecycle Management (ILM), Data Archiving, Data Volume Management (DVM), and system decommissioning solutions. This role bridges functional consulting, technical design, ABAP development, and data governance to optimize SAP environments, lower infrastructure costs, and ensure compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- SAP Data Archiving & ILM Consulting:
- Design, deliver, and support end-to-end SAP ILM, Data Archiving, and DVM solutions while ensuring data integrity.
- Develop and execute system decommissioning strategies (system shutdown, data extraction, migration, and long-term retention).
- Map data relationships/dependencies to enforce enterprise retention policies, data classification frameworks, and storage optimization.
- Support both SAP and non-SAP decommissioning projects across the full project lifecycle.
- Technical Solution Design & Development:
- Translate business/functional requirements into detailed technical specifications and solution designs.
- Design and build custom SAP ABAP enhancements, custom reports, and SQL-based reporting/analytics.
- Utilize database management systems for extraction, migration, syntax conversion, and data retention.
- Support testing, validation, deployment, and ongoing production support.
- Documentation, Governance & Client Engagement:
- Create detailed documentation covering archived data, retention rules, storage locations, metadata, and operational procedures.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, corporate, and legal retention standards; support audit reviews.
- Lead workshops, stakeholder meetings, knowledge transfer, and strategic advisory on data lifecycle management.
- Assist with project planning, effort estimation, and resource allocation to ensure milestone delivery.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent combined experience.
- Professional Experience:
- Overall: Minimum 8 years of professional experience.
- Data Archiving & DVM: Minimum 5 years of SAP Data Volume Management and SAP Data Archiving experience.
- ABAP Development: Minimum 4 years of hands-on SAP ABAP development experience.
- System Decommissioning: Minimum 3 years of SAP/non-SAP decommissioning experience (must have successfully delivered at least 2 system decommissioning projects and 2 end-to-end SAP Data Archiving implementations).
- Technical Skills:
- SAP ILM, SAP Data Archiving, SAP DVM, & SAP System Decommissioning
- Hands-on SAP ABAP Development & SQL Reporting
- Database Management Systems, Data Extraction & Migration
- Data Retention, Compliance, Classification Frameworks, & Data Governance
- Soft Skills: Fluent in English (written & verbal), strong analytical/problem-solving skills, excellent stakeholder management, and consulting mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with SAP Carve-Out projects and custom archiving methodologies.
- SAP BASIS administration knowledge and experience with functional modules.
- Experience with SAP HANA Data Aging and archiving functional objects in SAP HANA, SAP CRM, SAP BW, and SAP HR.
- Relevant SAP certifications (SAP ILM, Data Archiving, ABAP, or SAP Technology).
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Professional office setting with standard desktop/laptop work.
- Ability to occasionally lift/move up to 25 lbs and travel locally for business as needed.
