SAP HANA / Oracle SQL Performance Tuning Consultant

Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced SAP Native HANA & Oracle SQL Consultant for a long-term contract opportunity in San Jose, CA. This role is with a major enterprise in the telecommunications industry and offers a hybrid work setup (3 days onsite).

This position demands deep technical expertise in SAP Native HANA modeling and performance tuning, coupled with strong Oracle SQL query optimization skills. You will be responsible for analyzing, optimizing, and supporting enterprise data platforms that power large-scale business operations.

Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and optimize SAP Native HANA models including Calculation Views, SQLScript, and CDS views.
Perform deep performance analysis at the HANA system table level using tables such as M_EXPENSIVE_STATEMENTS, M_SQL_PLAN_CACHE, and trace files.
Tune and optimize Oracle SQL queries, including analyzing execution plans, indexing, partitioning, and statistics management.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve database performance issues and improve system efficiency.
Provide recommendations for query optimization, data modeling improvements, and HANA platform best practices.
Support production issues and deliver high-quality solutions within tight timelines.
Document technical designs, tuning recommendations, and best practices for the team.

Required Skills:
Strong hands-on experience with SAP Native HANA (modeling, performance tuning, SQLScript).
Deep expertise in Oracle SQL query performance tuning and optimization.
Proficiency in SQL — complex joins, analytical functions, subqueries, recursive queries.
Experience with HANA system table level analysis (M_EXPENSIVE_STATEMENTS, M_SQL_PLAN_CACHE, HANA trace).
Understanding of HANA architecture (column store, row store, delta merge).
Ability to analyze execution plans and identify performance bottlenecks.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Excellent communication skills to work with technical and business stakeholders.

Preferred Skills:
Experience in the telecommunications industry.
SAP HANA administration knowledge.
Experience with Oracle RAC, partitioning, and high-volume databases.
Familiarity with ETL processes and data warehousing concepts.

Working Hours:
This role requires a split shift:
9:00 AM – 3:00 PM PST
9:00 PM – 11:00 PM PST
Candidates must be comfortable with this schedule.

Additional Information:
Hybrid work model — 3 days onsite in San Jose, CA.
