Summary
This position requires on-site work, 5 days per week at the customer location in Arlington, VA
The Configuration Manager will work closely with customer leadership, engineering, project management, security, operations, and asset management teams to coordinate configuration control, support audits, and drive continuous improvement in CM processes, documentation, and tooling.
Responsibilities
- Document all approved network, hardware, and software configuration changes and maintain authoritative configuration records for the enterprise environment.
- Manage the Change Dashboard, including tracking all open change records (CHGs) and monitoring progress through the lifecycle.
- Review submitted Request for Change (RFC) documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with change management policies.
- Hold Pre-CAB reviews with technical and contractor leads to ensure RFCs are properly vetted prior to formal CAB.
- Facilitate the weekly Change Advisory Board (CAB), ensuring all changes are presented, discussed, risk-assessed, and dispositioned.
- Organize and maintain the weekly maintenance schedule, coordinating with stakeholders on upcoming changes and potential impacts.
- Facilitate pre- and post-maintenance meetings to confirm readiness, validate outcomes, and capture lessons learned.
- Submit DADMS (or similar DoD software repository) requests for new software additions and manage software associations to maintain compliance.
- Maintain Change and Configuration Management data within ServiceNow (or similar ITSM/CMDB platform), leveraging discovery capabilities to keep baselines accurate and current.
- Manage the Configuration Management Dashboard, including review of newly scanned Configuration Items (CIs) and their status.
- Drive CI completeness efforts by ensuring all applicable CIs are properly identified, classified, and added to the CMDB.
- Perform de-duplication of CI records and lead weekly CMDB improvement efforts to enhance data quality and reliability.
- Develop, maintain, and refine CM process guides, policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and status reports.
- Conduct configuration verification and audits for change documentation packages, design drawings, and related artifacts.
- Coordinate equipment and software utilization among users to ensure adherence to CM standards, baselines, and licensing requirements.
- Create and maintain configuration identification methods and master libraries for project documentation and technical baselines.
- Perform quality assurance checks on CM artifacts and implemented changes to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Recommend improvements to systems performance and CM processes based on trend analysis, audit findings, and stakeholder feedback.
- Provide backup support to the Asset Manager in the event of an emergency, which may include assisting with hardware and software asset tracking and deployment to ensure continuity of operations.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related IT field.
- 5 years of experience applying configuration management principles, methods, and techniques in an IT or network operations environment.
- 3 years of experience facilitating CAB activities and managing end-to-end configuration and change management processes.
- 3 years of hands-on experience with configuration management and ITSM support tools such as ServiceNow (including change records and CMDB) or similar platforms.
- 3 years of experience reviewing and processing RFCs/CRs and verifying, tracking, and documenting configuration changes and associated documentation packages.
- 3 years of experience managing configuration dashboards/metrics, configuration identification, and documentation libraries.
- 3 years of experience conducting configuration verification and audits of changes, documentation, and design artifacts.
- DoD 8570 IAWF IAM Level I certification (e.g., CAP, Security+ CE, or equivalent meeting IAM I requirements).
- Current Active Secret Clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting Navy, DoD, or other federal environments in CIO, network operations, asset management, or enterprise IT organizations.
- Direct experience performing configuration and change management for large enterprise or legacy networks.
- Strong familiarity with ServiceNow (including Discovery, CMDB) and DADMS or similar DoD software tracking/compliance tools.
- Experience working closely with IT asset management teams and understanding of asset lifecycle concepts.
- Experience developing program-wide CM processes, configuration identification methods, and documentation master libraries.
- Knowledge of ITIL or similar IT service management frameworks and how they integrate with CM, change management, and asset management.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to perform thorough quality checks and audits on documentation and configuration data.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent configuration changes and stakeholder groups.
