Job Details
We are seeking a highly experienced Backend Engineer to design, build, and optimize the core systems that power our platform. This role is 100% backend and centered on building scalable services, working with large datasets, and writing efficient, complex queries. The ideal candidate is deeply experienced with databases, performance tuning, and building reliable backend systems in production environments.
You will work closely with product, data, and infrastructure teams to deliver high-performance backend services that support mission-critical applications. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who thrives on solving complex data and system challenges at scale.
What You'll Do
Design and build backend services, APIs, and data pipelines supporting high-volume applications
Write and optimize complex SQL queries and stored procedures across large relational databases
Architect and maintain scalable database schemas and data models
Improve performance across backend systems, including query optimization, indexing strategies, and caching
Work heavily with relational databases (PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL, or similar) and large datasets
Collaborate with data, infrastructure, and product teams to support new features and reporting needs
Ensure reliability, scalability, and performance of backend systems in production environments
Troubleshoot production issues related to data, performance, and system stability
Contribute to backend architecture decisions and technical standards
Participate in code reviews and maintain high engineering standards
Tech Environment
Backend languages: (Node, Java, Python, C#, or similar depending on stack)
Databases: PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL, or other relational systems
Heavy SQL and query optimization
API development (REST, microservices)
Cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform)
Containerized or distributed systems preferred
What We're Looking For
5-10+ years of backend engineering experience
Strong expertise in relational databases and complex query development
Deep understanding of indexing, performance tuning, and database optimization
Experience building and maintaining backend systems at scale
Strong API and service architecture experience
Experience handling large datasets and high-traffic systems
Comfortable working in a backend-focused environment with minimal frontend work
Strong debugging and performance-analysis skills
Nice to Have
Experience with data-heavy applications or analytics platforms
Experience with distributed systems or microservices
Exposure to caching layers (Redis, etc.)
Experience optimizing queries in high-volume production environments
