This hands-on position is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining facility systems, utilities, and laboratory support equipment that enable testing and research activities.

The ideal candidate will have experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or factory environment, with a strong background in facility maintenance rather than residential maintenance or production equipment repair. HVAC experience is beneficial, but candidates with broader industrial maintenance experience are highly encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair facility systems, including:
    • Pumps
    • Valves
    • Air hoses and compressed air systems
    • Electrical outlets and circuits
    • Heat exchangers and other mechanical components
  • Use diagnostic tools such as multimeters to identify and resolve electrical and mechanical issues.
  • Support installation, modification, and commissioning of new laboratory systems and equipment.
  • Conduct inspections of facility utilities, including chilled water, compressed air, refrigerant systems, and electrical interfaces.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, preventive maintenance logs, and parts inventory.
  • Adhere to and enforce all safety requirements, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Ensure maintenance work areas remain clean, organized, and compliant with company and regulatory standards.
  • Provide maintenance support for all test laboratories as required.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 1 year (3+ years preferred) of experience in facilities, mechanical, or industrial maintenance within a manufacturing, industrial, laboratory, or factory environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret:

    • Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
    • Equipment manuals and technical documentation
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Experience performing basic electrical troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced laboratory environment supporting experimental and testing systems.

Preferred Qualifications
  • EPA 608 Universal Certification.
  • Experience working in HVAC/R testing laboratories, environmental chambers, or similar technical facilities.
  • Forklift and/or overhead crane certification.
  • Experience supporting facility infrastructure rather than production machinery.

Work Environment
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and ladder use.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Exposure to mechanical equipment, refrigerants, compressed gases, and variable temperature conditions.
  • Occasional weekend, overtime, or after-hours support for critical maintenance activities.
