Position: Senior VM Migration Engineer with NetApp Shift tool Experience
Location: Remote EST Time Zone
Duration: 6 Months
Rate: $ Open/Hour
Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Migration Engineer to lead cross-hypervisor virtualization transitions using enterprise tools, including the NetApp Shift Toolkit.
You will design, test, and execute seamless virtual machine migrations from VMware environments to modern alternative hypervisors (Hyper-V, OpenShift Virtualization, Proxmox).
Key Responsibilities:
Execute Migrations:
Plan and execute end-to-end VM and data migrations using the NetApp Shift Toolkit and ONTAP storage architectures
Storage Integration:
Leverage NetApp FlexClone and snapshot technologies to minimize downtime and reduce data copy durations during disk format conversions (VMDK to VHDx/QCOW2)
Pre/Post-Migration Automation:
Run preparation scripts, configure destination networks, update guest OS drivers (VirtIO), and remove legacy tools
Required Qualifications:
Experience: 10+ years managing enterprise storage and virtualization migration projects.
Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of NetApp ONTAP storage systems, NetApp Shift Tool, FlexClone, and NAS environments.
Hypervisors: Strong familiarity with VMware ESXi alongside at least one target platform (Microsoft Hyper-V, Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization, Proxmox, or OLVM).
