Solumina MES Quality Solution Architect

Start Date: 11/16/2026
Duration: 12-month contract with potential extension
Location: Remote with 1 2 weeks per month onsite in Savannah, GA (travel expenses covered)
Industry: Aerospace / Manufacturing

Position Overview

Mako Professionals is seeking an experienced Solumina MES Quality Solution Architect to support the implementation of an integrated manufacturing quality and digital thread initiative.

Our client is developing a solution connecting Siemens Teamcenter PLM with Solumina Manufacturing Execution System (MES) to support quality planning, inspection execution, nonconformance management, and manufacturing traceability.

This position will lead the Solumina MES solution design, configuration, quality process analysis, and integration activities. The individual will help establish how quality plans and characteristics originating in Teamcenter are translated into executable inspection and quality processes within Solumina.

The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on Solumina MES experience, deep manufacturing quality process knowledge, and the ability to bridge business requirements with technical system capabilities.

Key Responsibilities Solumina MES Architecture & Configuration
  • Lead the design, configuration, and implementation of quality-related capabilities within Solumina MES.

  • Configure and optimize manufacturing inspection workflows, quality data collection, work instructions, and operator execution processes.

  • Translate quality plans and characteristics originating in Teamcenter into executable inspection activities within Solumina.

  • Define inspection points, sampling requirements, acceptance criteria, approvals, and electronic quality records.

  • Support manufacturing execution workflows, shop-floor data collection, operator buyoffs, and quality verification processes.

  • Evaluate system capabilities, identify gaps, and recommend configuration or development enhancements.

Manufacturing Quality Process Design
  • Work directly with quality engineering, manufacturing operations, and business stakeholders to define end-to-end quality processes.

  • Analyze and document inspection planning, inspection execution, quality characteristics, and results collection.

  • Design and support nonconformance and defect management workflows, including NCR and Defect Reporting and Disposition Instructions (DRDI).

  • Support Material Review Board (MRB) disposition processes, Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA), and corrective action tracking.

  • Define requirements for FAA acceptance processes, quality audits, compliance documentation, and electronic inspection records.

  • Support supplier quality, incoming inspections, call sheet authoring, and quality reporting requirements.

  • Ensure that manufacturing quality processes support traceability, accountability, and regulatory auditability.

Digital Thread & Enterprise Integration
  • Design and support integrations between Solumina MES, Siemens Teamcenter PLM, and SAP ERP where applicable.

  • Define the flow of quality plans, inspection characteristics, manufacturing instructions, and quality execution results across systems.

  • Establish data mappings, system-of-record ownership, integration requirements, and interface validation procedures.

  • Support traceability between engineering definitions, manufacturing orders, work instructions, inspections, and completed quality records.

  • Analyze as-planned versus as-built manufacturing data and unique identifier traceability requirements.

  • Collaborate with Teamcenter architects, SAP teams, integration developers, and quality stakeholders to resolve cross-system data issues.

  • Participate in integration testing, defect resolution, and end-to-end process validation.

Business Analysis & Requirements Management
  • Facilitate workshops with quality, manufacturing engineering, operations, and IT stakeholders.

  • Gather and document business requirements, user stories, process flows, and acceptance criteria.

  • Perform fit-gap assessments between current manufacturing quality processes and Solumina capabilities.

  • Define functional specifications, process improvements, and requirements traceability.

  • Support minimum viable product (MVP) scope decisions and prioritize critical quality functionality.

  • Develop data mapping documentation, integration requirements, and detailed testing scenarios.

Testing, Deployment & Knowledge Transfer
  • Develop and execute functional testing scenarios covering inspection execution, defect management, MRB workflows, and manufacturing traceability.

  • Support system integration testing (SIT), UAT, deployment readiness, and production stabilization.

  • Create process documentation, solution configuration guides, and operational procedures.

  • Train manufacturing quality personnel, internal IT resources, and permanent team members on implemented functionality.

  • Support a structured transition of solution ownership to the client's internal team.

Required Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience with manufacturing execution systems, manufacturing quality systems, or closely related manufacturing technology roles, including significant hands-on Solumina MES implementation or configuration experience.

  • Strong functional and technical understanding of Solumina MES, particularly quality-related capabilities and shop-floor execution.

  • Experience with manufacturing inspection planning, inspection execution, and quality data collection.

  • Strong knowledge of defect management, NCR, MRB, RCCA, and manufacturing quality workflows.

  • Experience designing, configuring, or improving MES-based manufacturing processes.

  • Understanding of PLM, MES, and ERP integration concepts and manufacturing data flows.

  • Experience gathering requirements, performing fit-gap analysis, documenting processes, and supporting system testing.

  • Understanding of regulated manufacturing environments and quality documentation requirements.

  • Ability to work directly with business stakeholders, technical teams, and manufacturing personnel.

  • Ability to travel onsite to Savannah, GA for 1 2 weeks per month.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with iBASEt Solumina MES, including shop-floor execution and electronic quality record management.

  • Experience integrating Solumina with Siemens Teamcenter, SAP ERP, or other enterprise manufacturing platforms.

  • Background in aerospace, aviation, defense, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.

  • Knowledge of FAA acceptance requirements, AS9100, ISO 9001, and manufacturing quality compliance.

  • Understanding of electronic work instructions, electronic travelers, inspection records, and manufacturing genealogy.

  • Experience with digital thread, closed-loop quality, and as-planned versus as-built traceability solutions.

  • Familiarity with REST APIs, XML/JSON, middleware, and enterprise integration technologies.

  • Experience with quality reporting, audit evidence, defect data management, and manufacturing KPIs.

  • Experience with Jira, Azure DevOps, Visio, or similar requirements and documentation tools.

  • Experience training end users and transitioning manufacturing systems to internal support teams.

Expected Deliverables
  • Solumina MES quality solution design and configuration documentation

  • Manufacturing quality process flows and swimlane diagrams

  • Inspection planning and execution requirements

  • Functional specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria

  • Fit-gap assessments and process improvement recommendations

  • Teamcenter-to-Solumina and applicable SAP-to-Solumina data mappings

  • Defect management, MRB, and RCCA workflow documentation

  • Requirements traceability matrices

  • System integration and UAT test scripts

  • Deployment readiness assessments

  • Training materials and knowledge transfer documentation

Project Environment: iBASEt Solumina MES, Siemens Teamcenter PLM, SAP ERP, manufacturing quality systems, enterprise integration, and digital thread technologies.
