Description
We are seeking a Sr. Software Engineer to join its Data Distributor team within Core Banking. The Data Distributor platform plays a critical role in processing, validating, and distributing high volume transactional data that flows through the bank's mainframe ecosystem.
This role requires a seasoned mainframe engineer with strong, hands on experience in COBOL and VSAM, particularly in batch oriented, mission critical environments. The ideal candidate can contribute quickly with minimal ramp up and is comfortable working in highly stable but complex systems.
This is a contract to hire role, intended to transition into a full time position for the right long term addition to the team.

Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL and VSAM.
Support and enhance high volume batch processing and file based workflows.
Analyze and resolve complex production issues with a focus on root cause resolution.
Work with JCL, batch dependencies, and job restart/recovery strategies.
Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and performance across large transaction volumes.
Collaborate with upstream and downstream application teams.
Participate in Agile ceremonies and iterative planning.
Produce and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and process flows.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team knowledge growth.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of hands on COBOL development experience in enterprise mainframe environments.
VSAM experience, including KSDS/ESDS structures and performance considerations.
Strong experience with batch processing, JCL, and production support.
Ability to troubleshoot and support mission critical systems independently.
Experience working in regulated or high availability environments.
Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team focused mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with DB2.
Familiarity with transaction distribution or data routing platforms.
Exposure to Hogan systems (RPM, CIS, IDS).
Knowledge of IMS or CICS.
Prior experience mentoring or training less experienced engineers.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $52.00 - $60.00/hr.
