Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe COBOL Developer to design, develop, maintain, and enhance COBOL applications in an enterprise mainframe environment. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with COBOL, JCL, DB2, and CICS, along with the ability to analyze business requirements, design technical solutions, and provide technical guidance to development teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, maintain, and enhance COBOL applications on the mainframe.

  • Assess business requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions and application architectures.

  • Provide technical guidance and direction to team members.

  • Develop technical documentation, training materials, and presentations.

  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical, operational, and process issues in a timely manner.

  • Collaborate with business analysts, technical teams, and stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver solutions.

  • Apply strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills to complex technical challenges.

  • Support application modernization, integration, and ongoing maintenance activities as required.

  • 6–8 years of experience assessing requirements, designing technology solutions and architectures, and providing technical direction to teams.

  • Strong understanding of mainframe application development and enterprise technology environments.

  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Collaborative and team-oriented approach.

  • Knowledge of mainstream technologies and architectures, including open standards, database, and integration technologies.

Required Experience

  • 6–8 years of relevant experience in Mainframe COBOL development and technical solution design.

  • Experience working with State Government clients is mandatory.

  • Experience analyzing business requirements and developing technical solutions.

  • Experience providing technical direction, mentoring, and knowledge transfer to development teams.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
