Position Description:The VDC Engineer supports the Project Team and assists in mentoring BIM Engineers. The VDC Engineer is responsible for model management and is the primary liaison for VDC coordination between the design team, the engineering team, trades and operations.
Position Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering and/or Architectural Engineering.
- Expertise with Autodesk programs - specifically AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks Manage.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Understanding concepts of VDC or BIM.
- Exposure to and preliminary experience with some Building Information Model (BIM) systems (i.e., Autodesk Revit, 4D Software, cmBuilder, Navisworks and similar software suites).
- Excellent computer skills, including high level of proficiency in MS Office and Bluebeam.
- Strong personal management skills, dedication, organization, and open-mindedness.
- Creative thinker with ability to work in a collaborative environment.
Preferred Qualifications:- 3+ years in construction or design industry.
Essential Duties:- Support project teams with both office and field-based VDC activities, including model review, site verification, and deployment of field technology.
- Execute project-specific VDC Execution Plans and implementation strategies in alignment with the Project Manager and VDC Manager, ensuring consistent standards and deliverables across all phases.
- Manage and coordinate all model disciplines - Architectural, MEPTF, structural, civil, specialty systems, and site logistics - to maintain an accurate, federated project model.
- Identify, track, and resolve clashes, design discrepancies, and constructability issues, maintaining a clear and actionable coordination issue log.
- Perform quality assurance reviews to ensure model structure, content, metadata, and geometry meet project standards and support downstream uses such as layout, prefabrication, and 4D/5D workflows.
- Apply foundational field layout and control principles to support model-to-field accuracy, including point creation, verification, and alignment with survey control.
- Maintain and enforce the coordinated VDC schedule, including tracking progress, issuing follow-ups, and communicating required actions to project stakeholders.
- Engage daily with the Transmittal & Delivery Schedule, Quality Process Log, and the 6-Step Quality Control Process, ensuring VDC deliverables support project quality and installation accuracy.
- Produce and distribute updates for field technology deployment, including model exports, layout files, AR/VR content, and scan-to-model deliverables.
- Assist with establishing project alignment for all 3D coordination efforts and integration with the primary control plan, ensuring consistency between digital models, field layout, and construction sequencing.
Physical Work Classification & Demands:- Light Work. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- The individual in this position will periodically walk, kneel, sit, crouch, reach, stoop, read/see, speak, push, pull, lift, stand, and finger/type. The frequency of each action varies by workflow and office activity.
- Walking - Regularly walk the office and jobsite to verify model accuracy, observe field conditions, support trade partners, and identify coordination issues early to keep construction aligned with VDC deliverables.
- Frequently operates computers and digital equipment, including workstations, mobile devices, laser-scanning hardware, VR/AR tools, and standard office technology used to support modeling, coordination, and documentation workflows.
- Regularly communicates with internal teams and external stakeholders, providing updates on VDC coordination, model changes, field conditions, and administrative needs through meetings, digital platforms, and real-time collaboration tools.
- Frequently engages in digital analysis, including interpreting 3D models, point clouds, coordination data, and construction documentation across multiple software platforms.
- Regularly reviews digital communications, including model markups, coordination issues, RFIs, and high-volume email or messaging workflows.
- Often remains seated at a workstation while operating computers, scanners, VR/AR devices, and other VDC technology for extended periods.
- Requires strong visual acuity for detailed model review, clash detection, scan analysis, and safe operation of vehicles or equipment when traveling between office and jobsite.
- Occasionally exposed to varying temperatures when performing field walks, laser scanning, or installation verification on active jobsites.
- Occasionally exposed to construction-related noise and outdoor conditions, including wind, precipitation, uneven surfaces, and active work areas during site visits.
