We are seeking a highly experienced TPF Architect to lead the design, modernization, and optimization of our high-volume, mission-critical IBM z/TPF operating system environments. In this role, you will be responsible for defining the technical vision and system architecture that enables our platform to reliably process tens of thousands of transactions per second with uninterrupted availability. You will bridge low-level mainframe engineering with modern distributed or cloud topologies.🛠️
Key Responsibilities: Architectural Leadership: Define the long-term technical vision and target architecture for core transaction processing systems. Map logical business requirements to physical database and core execution structures. System Design & Optimization: Design high-performance, resilient sub-systems using IBM z/TPFDF and low-level interfaces. Maximize system throughput by optimizing memory usage, CPU consumption, and I/O handling. Modernization & Integration: Guide the strategy for legacy mainframe integration with modern platforms (e.g., Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform), hybrid cloud environments, or RESTful APIs).Code & Governance Standards: Establish guiding development principles and coding standards. Conduct rigorous code reviews of critical TPF Assembler, MVS Assembler (HLASM), and TPF C/C++ components. Incident & Capacity Management: Act as the highest escalation tier for complex production incidents. Partner with infrastructure engineering to execute capacity planning and tune active system parameters. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product Managers, Security teams, and Enterprise Architects to evaluate downstream impacts of system changes and technical debt.
Required Technical Skills & Qualifications Experience:
12+ years in mainframe systems development, with at least 4–5 years in a dedicated Lead, Principal, or Systems Architect capacity.Core Operating System: Deep, authoritative knowledge of the IBM z/TPF real-time operating system family. Programming Languages: Mastery of TPF Assembler, HLASM, and TPF C/C++.Data Management: Expert-level knowledge of z/TPFDF (Database Facility) and low-level data storage, retrieval, and structural indexing strategies.Tooling: Familiarity with TPF Toolkit (Eclipse-based IDE), TPF Operations Server, and modern CI/CD automation practices fitted for low-level mainframe layers.Domain Knowledge: Strong preference for candidates with extensive backgrounds in Airline reservation domains (e.g., PNR processing, EDIFACT, Sabre/Amadeus integrations) or Payment processing networks (e.g., high-volume credit card switches).🌟 Soft Skills & Core CompetenciesRisk Management: Proven capacity to manage high-availability systems where downtime results in major financial or operational fallout.Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to convert obscure technical complexities into actionable roadmap goals for non-mainframe business units.Pragmatic Problem-Solving: Ability to balance ideal architectural concepts with the rigid realities of legacy system constraints. If you are modifying this template for a specific project, let me know:Is the objective focused on maintaining/optimizing a legacy TPF codebase, or migrating/offloading TPF workloads
