You'll be responsible for keeping a roughly 100-bed hospital safe, compliant and running smoothly for patients and staff. You'll lead a team of about 20 and act as the hospital's go-to expert on building systems and regulatory readiness.

This is a strong time to step in. Major HVAC and water heater replacements have recently been completed across the hospital, the building has no planned expansion, and you'll get a full year of preceptor training plus local support from experienced peer facilities directors in the St. Louis area.

What you'll do:

Lead all facility, plant operations and engineering functions for a multi-story hospital of about 120,000 sq ft
Lead, schedule and develop a team of about 20 direct reports, with no dedicated administrative support
Oversee the operation and maintenance of chillers, steam boilers, air handlers, hydraulic systems, building controls and electrical systems
Own Environment of Care, Life Safety and utility management programs, and keep the hospital survey-ready for The Joint Commission
Ensure compliance with TJC, OSHA, EPA, NFPA, CMS and state and local regulations
Manage preventive maintenance programs, documentation and CMMS records
Oversee vendors, contractors, capital projects and construction activity, including infection control (ICRA)
Manage the department budget and plan for future capital needs
Lead emergency preparedness, fire safety and hazardous materials programs
Work closely with hospital senior leadership and regional facilities leaders

What you bring:

A bachelor's degree and/or 5-7 years of hospital maintenance and/or construction experience in a healthcare setting
At least 5 years of supervisory experience
5 years of current experience operating facility equipment and systems in a healthcare institution: chillers, steam boilers, hydraulic systems, building controls, electrical and air handlers
Broad knowledge of TJC, OSHA, EPA, NFPA and other federal, state and local regulatory standards
Leadership skills to guide a diverse team with varying abilities and skill levels
A valid driver's license
Preferred: CHFM certification, and membership in a state or national healthcare engineering association (e.g., ASHE)
