Overview

At TEKsystems we are supporting a local organization is seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) for a 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity based in Honolulu, HI. This role supports and optimizes enterprise database environments with a focus on performance, security, reliability, and cost-efficient operations across Azure SQL and Oracle platforms. Candidates must reside in Honolulu, HI and be comfortable working onsite two days per week.

Required Qualifications

• 3-5 years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator
• Strong experience with Oracle, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server
• Advanced SQL skills; power user capable of writing, tuning, and troubleshooting complex queries
• Ability to pivot from query-heavy work into basic database infrastructure management
• Experience with:
  • Security management (user creation, permissions, access controls)
  • Performance management (monitoring workloads, identifying and resolving bottlenecks)

Nice to Have

• Experience supporting Azure SQL environments
• Exposure to cloud cost optimization and resource usage monitoring
• Familiarity with enterprise security policies and compliance standards

Key Responsibilities

• Manage, monitor, and optimize databases across Azure SQL and Oracle platforms
• Assist in maintaining database integrity, availability, and reliability, including:
  • Backups, restores, patching, and updates
• Monitor database performance metrics and proactively identify potential issues
• Analyze and optimize database queries to improve performance and efficiency
• Support database security by implementing best practices and adhering to internal security policies
• Maintain clear, accurate documentation for database procedures, configurations, and standards
• Collaborate with developers, system administrators, and cross-functional technical teams
• Stay current with evolving database technologies and industry best practices
• Assist in managing the technical budget related to database architecture and tooling
• Optimize resource usage to ensure cost-effective database operations

Additional Requirements

• Must reside in Honolulu, HI
• Must be able to work onsite 2 days per week

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Honolulu, HI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $38.00/hr.
