Summary

Senior Network Administrator - VA EHR Deployment (50% Travel)

Lead network support teams across VA facilities | 1-4 week travel rotations | SME for multi-site deployments

The Role:

Lead network operations for the VA's Electronic Health Record deployment project. Travel 1-4 weeks at a time to oversee network installations, mentor technical staff at VA sites nationwide, and troubleshoot complex network issues. Between trips, provide local VA helpdesk and network admin support. You'll be the senior technical expert managing network connectivity, Wi-Fi systems, and hardware deployments with minimal supervision.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead and mentor network technicians at VA sites across the country
  • Design, configure, and troubleshoot complex network architectures
  • Manage baseband connectivity, internet configuration, and Wi-Fi hardware
  • Troubleshoot multiple sites concurrently and resolve network issues remotely
  • Deploy and configure network equipment at VA medical centers and training facilities
  • Analyze network traffic and determine root causes for connectivity issues
  • Create network topology diagrams using Microsoft Visio
  • Provide hardware support: imaging, configuration, break/fix, and updates

Required:

  • 5+ years designing, configuring, and troubleshooting IP networks
  • Bachelor's in CS/Engineering/IT + 5 years experience OR 13 years experience in lieu of degree
  • Complex network architecture experience (design, analysis, implementation)
  • Technical team leadership across multiple sites
  • Wi-Fi and network hardware expertise (install, config, troubleshooting)
  • Knowledge of routing protocols and technologies (e.g., Fortinet Routers)
  • Network traffic analysis and root cause troubleshooting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Microsoft Visio proficiency for network diagrams
  • Physical requirements: Lift/move equipment up to 25 lbs, frequent stooping/reaching
  • Travel: Up to 50% (1-4 weeks at a time by vehicle, occasional air travel)
  • Valid driver's license and ability to navigate various routes

Preferred:

  • Public Trust clearance
  • Network migration experience
  • Cisco 9300/9800 series switches
  • Juniper & Cisco Access Points

Travel & Work Environment:

  • Travel 1-4 weeks at a time to VA sites nationwide
  • Home base: Local VA for helpdesk/network admin work between deployments
  • Occasional evenings/weekends supporting field staff
  • Physical work: installing equipment, configuring network closets
