WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Slate is seeking a motivated Metrology Engineer to join our growing team. This role is ideal for candidates with demonstrated entry-level to junior engineering experience who are eager to build technical skills in metrology, manufacturing quality, and laboratory operations. You will work closely with experienced engineers, quality, and production teams while gaining exposure to real-world manufacturing and launch environments.

This is a strong opportunity to develop hands-on experience with advanced measurement technologies while contributing directly to product quality and continuous improvement. We welcome applicants with developing technical skills who are eager to grow.

At Slate, we are committed to providing our employees and candidates with access to information about our compensation practices. The expected base salary range offered for this role is $101,000 - $126,000. Compensation may vary based on relevant experience, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location. (Warsaw, IN)

WHAT YOU GET TO DO:
  • Support calibration, measurement, and testing of equipment and components using established procedures and industry standards (e.g., ISO 17025)
  • Learn to operate and maintain metrology equipment, including blue-light laser scanners, portable scanning arms, hand gauges, and other measurement tools
  • Perform routine inspections and verification activities to ensure measurement accuracy and system reliability
  • Document calibration procedures, inspection results, and equipment records with strong attention to detail
  • Support day-to-day laboratory operations, including instrument upkeep and quality assurance practices
  • Assist with troubleshooting measurement systems and laboratory equipment, with guidance from senior engineers
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to support manufacturing, launch, and research activities
  • Participate in internal audits, reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Follow all safety and quality protocols to maintain a safe and compliant lab and manufacturing environment
  • Stay engaged in learning new tools, software, and measurement methods as technologies and processes evolve
  • Perform other duties as assigned related to metrology and laboratory support

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM:
  • 8+ years related experience with Bachelor's degree, 6 years with Master's degree, 3 years with PhD or equivalent experience in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or similar).
  • Ability to quickly learn metrology software; experience with PolyWorks, ZEISS Inspect Pro, ATOS ScanBox, or scanning arms is a plus but not required
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for data analysis and communication
  • Willingness to learn GD&T and read technical drawings
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing or quality concepts (APQP, PPAP, MSA, SPC, etc.) is a plus
  • Strong teamwork mindset and willingness to collaborate across functions
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage tasks in a fast-paced engineering environment
  • Comfortable performing hands-on work, including lifting or handling equipment up to 50 lbs as needed
