job summary:
We are seeking an Akamai Subject Matter Expert (SME) / Security Architect to oversee application security traffic analysis and policy enforcement across enterprise environments. In this 100% remote contract position, you will assume full ownership of edge security configurations, transitioning traffic evaluations and rule implementations from third-party vendor oversight to autonomous in-house management. You will also mentor and upskill team members to foster deeper operational expertise in the Akamai platform.

responsibilities:
- Lead independent evaluations of web and bot traffic, identifying anomalies and configuring precise allow/deny rules within Non-Prod and Production environments.
- Configure Custom Bot Categories, design custom conditions, and maintain client lists inside the Akamai Console.
- Audit production rules and mirror configurations accurately within lower testing environments.
- Create, validate, and promote security configuration versions from Non-Prod through to Production release.
- Train and upskill internal security engineering colleagues on Akamai administration, best practices, and policy adjustments.
qualifications:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
5+ years of hands-on experience administering and configuring the Akamai Web Security suite.
4-6 years of demonstrated depth in Application Security, WAF architecture, and web traffic diagnostics.
Direct experience engineering Custom Bot Categories, managing client lists, and deploying allow/deny policies.
Strong diagnostic mindset with the ability to independently evaluate edge traffic logs and resolve security issues without external vendor guidance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Proven background mentoring or training technical teams in security platforms.
Experience in enterprise systems integration or large-scale multi-environment architectures.
Relevant industry certifications in cybersecurity or cloud edge security.
