Job Description:
The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is seeking an experienced Application Developer to support the design, development, and maintenance of enterprise web applications supporting financial and operational systems. This role requires a strong background in .NET, C#, API development, and enterprise integrations, with specific experience integrating with Workday. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working across the full software development lifecycle in an Agile/Scrum environment. The ideal candidate is a proactive and forward-thinking developer who can take ownership of projects and lead technical initiatives. This role requires the ability to independently drive solutions, identify opportunities for improvement, and contribute to the advancement of modern development practices, including emerging technologies such as AI and automation.
The candidate will play a key role in helping NDOT evolve its technology landscape by introducing innovative ideas, improving development efficiency, and leveraging AI-driven tools and intelligent integrations where appropriate.
Required Skills (Must Have):
- 7+ years of experience in software development
- Strong experience with:
- .NET Framework / .NET Core / ASP.NET
- C#
- ASP.NET MVC and/or Web API development
- RESTful API development and integrations
- Experience with Workday integrations (APIs, web services, or data integration)
Experience with:
- HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, Angular and/or React.js
- ADO.NET / Entity Framework
- SQL / relational databases
- Experience using Azure DevOps (or similar tools)
- Experience working in an Agile / Scrum environment
- Strong understanding of full-stack development (front-end, middle-tier, back-end)
- Strong communication and documentation skills
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have):
- Experience with financial or accounting systems
- Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD)
- Experience with Telerik UI components
- Experience with SSRS reporting
- Experience designing and building secure ASP.NET applications
- Experience with enterprise system integrations
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test, and maintain .NET-based web applications
- Build and support Workday integrations and API-based solutions
- Develop and consume REST APIs and web services
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather and refine requirements
- Translate requirements into technical designs and solutions
- Participate in Agile ceremonies (Sprint Planning, Standups, Reviews)
- Ensure adherence to coding standards, security, and best practices
- Troubleshoot and enhance existing applications
- Support deployment and ongoing system maintenance
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field OR
- Equivalent combination of education and 7+ years of relevant experience
- Additional Requirements:
- Temporarily hybrid: position will transition to 100% onsite in Lincoln, NE
- Must have reliable attendance
- Must be able to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
