Job Title: J2EE Developer, Legacy Application Modernization
Location: Fort Belvoir, Virginia
Type: Direct Hire
Work Model: Primarily remote with occasional onsite support
Security Clearance: Active Secret clearance required
Overview
System One IT is seeking an experienced J2EE Developer to support an Army data migration and application modernization initiative. This position will analyze and document an existing legacy Java EE and Oracle application, including embedded business rules, database dependencies, integrations, ETL processes, and scheduled batch jobs.
This is not a traditional greenfield Java development position. The selected developer will work within an established legacy codebase, determine how the application and data layers operate today, and translate that logic for the engineers building the target Palantir environment.
The position is primarily remote with occasional onsite support at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. The exact onsite schedule has not been finalized, but support is currently estimated to be required once every few weeks.Responsibilities
• Analyze and document business rules embedded within the legacy Java EE application and its related data layer.
• Review existing application code, database logic, interfaces, and scheduled processes to identify system behavior and dependencies.
• Support static analysis of legacy ETL jobs, PL/SQL objects, and batch-processing workflows.
• Document application dependencies across database schemas, external integrations, scheduled jobs, and the NIPR and SIPR Data Guard replication path.
• Serve as the subject-matter liaison between the legacy application environment and the Palantir Foundry pipeline engineers.
• Translate existing data-transformation and business logic into clear technical documentation that the target engineering team can use.
• Support source-to-target reconciliation by helping explain differences between legacy-system output and target-platform output.
• Collaborate with Oracle DBAs, data engineers, application developers, testers, security personnel, and program stakeholders throughout the migration.
• Contribute to migration, cutover, validation, and legacy-system decommissioning planning.Required Qualifications
• Hands-on experience developing, maintaining, or analyzing enterprise Java EE or J2EE applications.
• Experience with legacy Java technologies such as JSP, Servlets, EJB, JDBC, JNDI, JMS, DAO patterns, and MVC Model 2 architecture.
• Experience supporting applications deployed through WebLogic, WebSphere, JBoss, Tomcat, Oracle Application Server, or a comparable enterprise Java application server.
• Experience developing or analyzing Oracle SQL and PL/SQL, including stored procedures, packages, triggers, views, or related database objects.
• Experience working with established or undocumented enterprise codebases and identifying embedded business rules, system behavior, and application dependencies.
• Working knowledge of ETL, ELT, and batch-processing concepts, including scheduled synchronization jobs and materialized-view refresh patterns.
• Experience documenting application architecture, database schemas, interfaces, business rules, and system dependencies.
• Experience supporting legacy application modernization, migration, transition, or decommissioning efforts.
• Ability to collaborate with data engineers and communicate legacy application logic in actionable technical terms.
• Active Secret security clearance.
• Ability to provide occasional onsite support at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. The exact schedule is still being finalized and is currently estimated at once every few weeks.Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with Oracle Data Integrator, Oracle Data Transforms, OCI Data Integration, Informatica, CloverETL, or another enterprise data-integration platform.
• Experience supporting Oracle 19c applications or databases.
• Experience with Oracle Data Guard or applications operating across NIPR and SIPR environments.
• Prior exposure to Army personnel, force-management, or logistics systems, including IPPS-A, GFM DI, or TAADS.
• Experience supporting source-to-target data reconciliation and explaining differences between legacy and target-system output.
• Experience collaborating with Palantir Foundry engineers or supporting migration into another modern data platform.
• Basic Python, Bash, or shell-scripting experience for validation, analysis, or bridge tooling.
• Experience supporting DoD, Army, federal, or similarly regulated systems.
