Job at a glance:

This is a long-term contract, with an initial term of 12 months, planned for extension and/or permanent placement
Pay range of $26-30/hr on W2; Eligible to sign up for benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision, and 401k) on day 1
Onsite position, with daily local travel to Columbia and surrounding local areas
Must use personal vehicle and mileage is reimbursed at GSA rate of 72.5 cents per mile

Job Description:

This role supports telecommunications infrastructure through installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and network support activities. The technician will work in the field and participate in system upgrades, maintenance windows, and outage response.

Key Responsibilities

Install, wire, and support routers and switches; coordinate configuration and troubleshooting
Install and provision transport equipment and Ethernet services supporting MPLS networks
Maintain accurate records of installations, configurations, repairs, and maintenance
Perform testing, deployment, and documentation for system upgrades and maintenance windows
Respond to system outages, storm response, and disaster recovery events
Participate in maintenance window cutovers and system grooming activities
Ensure all work complies with telecommunications regulations and safety standards
Provide technical support and customer service during field visits
Identify appropriate resources and develop solutions to technical issues

Required Technical Skills (Must Have)

SolarWinds NPM and NCM
Experience with Nokia and Ciena transport equipment
Commissioning and troubleshooting DWDM systems

Technical Skills and Experience

Working knowledge of fiber circuits, MPLS, and LAN/WAN data circuits
Skilled in fiber termination and troubleshooting
Knowledge of fiber terminations, data circuits, and 48V / 135V DC power plants
Experience with DC plant systems, LAN and wireless testing
Experience using fiber optic test equipment and various cabling types
Familiarity with cable identification, terminating cables, and Channel Banks
Electrical or electronic background preferred
SCADA experience is a plus

Strong communication skills
Ability to work independently
Self-starter with strong safety awareness
Maintains clean and organized work sites
High attention to detail and environmental awareness

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or GED required
Associate Degree plus 3 years related experience OR
Military experience with 5 years related experience
