Our Cloud Infrastructure Platform Engineering team plays a pivotal role in designing and deploying robust infrastructure solutions to support SAP products and services. We are an automation-first organization, prioritizing the deployment of all our cloud resources via automation to enhance efficiency and consistency. Our engineers collaborate closely with internal product teams to deliver adaptable and scalable code that meets the requirements of our diverse clientele. We are looking for a highly detail-oriented senior engineer who can bridge technical execution and project management; someone with deep Terraform and infrastructure as code expertise who can scope, plan, and drive large-scale infrastructure initiatives to completion.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, build, and maintain large-scale infrastructure as code solutions using Terraform across AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud Platform, including reusable module development and multi-environment deployments.
- Lead and coordinate complex infrastructure projects from requirements gathering through delivery, ensuring technical accuracy, thorough documentation, and on-time execution.
- Translate complex infrastructure requirements into well-scoped technical plans, actionable work items, and clear documentation.
- Develop, maintain, and optimize automation workflows leveraging scripting, CI/CD pipelines, and configuration management tools.
- Leverage generative AI tools to increase engineering efficiency, improve accuracy, enhance security posture, and optimize resource management.
- Execute and develop Ansible playbooks and roles for configuration management and maintenance automation.
- Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitLab and similar tooling across multiple repositories.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, runbooks, knowledge base articles, and technical documentation.
- Collaborate closely with internal product teams to define infrastructure requirements and deliver scalable, repeatable IaC solutions.
- Implement monitoring, logging, and configuration management capabilities across multi-tenant, multi-cloud environments.
- Deploy and manage containerized services using Docker and/or Kubernetes.
- Operate with a security-first mindset across all responsibilities.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Deep, hands-on Terraform expertise including module design, state management, remote backends, workspace strategies, and large-scale multi-cloud deployments.
- Strong automation background with proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash) and configuration management tools (Ansible).
- Experience with CI/CD pipeline design and implementation (GitLab, ConcourseCI, or similar).
- Experience managing or coordinating large, multi-stakeholder technical projects with strong attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of one or more major cloud platforms at scale: AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Ability to review, interpret, and document complex infrastructure configurations and requirements.
- Working knowledge of networking fundamentals: IP routing, subnetting, DNS, and cloud connectivity.
- Strong Linux OS skills including deployment, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with RBAC and SSO for identity and access management.
- Familiarity with HashiCorp Vault or similar secrets management solutions.
- Experience with logging, log processing, and observability tooling in cloud environments.
- Knowledge of ITIL-compliant ticket management (ServiceNow) including incident resolution and sprint planning.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, automation, or DevOps roles.
- 5+ years of hands-on Terraform experience, including building and maintaining production-grade infrastructure at scale.
- Demonstrated experience managing or contributing to large-scale, complex technical projects.
- Proficiency in at least one scripting or automation language (Python, Bash).
- Experience with CI/CD tooling and configuration management (Ansible or equivalent).
- Basic understanding of core networking: TCP/IP, DNS, routing, and cloud connectivity.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Hands-on experience with AI/ML tooling or leveraging generative AI to improve engineering workflows.
- Expertise designing and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a track record of producing clear technical documentation.
- Systematic problem-solving approach with a sense of ownership and accountability.
- Experience working in government or regulated environments.
- HashiCorp Terraform certifications or equivalent cloud provider certifications (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
