Position Overview

Our client is looking for a seasoned Electrical Engineer III to provide engineering leadership for electrical power infrastructure supporting both capital projects and day-to-day operations. This position will play a key role in the development, evaluation, and improvement of electrical systems ranging from high-voltage distribution through low-voltage applications.

The engineer will work closely with project managers, operations personnel, construction contractors, regulatory agencies, and other engineering disciplines. The ideal candidate brings strong power-systems expertise, project leadership experience, and the ability to transition effectively between office-based engineering work and field assignments.

Core Responsibilities

  • Engineer and evaluate high-, medium-, and low-voltage electrical systems associated with new construction, expansions, upgrades, and existing operations.
  • Take ownership of electrical engineering projects through the complete project lifecycle, including scope development, cost planning, execution, contractor management, and project closeout.
  • Provide technical leadership and engineering support to construction and field teams throughout project implementation.
  • Participate in pre-construction planning and meetings while coordinating activities with contractors, utilities, regulatory bodies, and other outside organizations.
  • Review contractor and third-party engineering packages to identify potential impacts to existing electrical infrastructure and operating systems.
  • Evaluate electrical system performance and support reliability-centered maintenance, condition monitoring, and asset reliability programs.
  • Review, develop, and maintain protective relay settings and associated electrical system documentation.
  • Perform or support electrical engineering studies, technical evaluations, cost analyses, and recommendations for system improvements.
  • Develop capital and maintenance project budgets and provide engineering input into long-term infrastructure planning.
  • Ensure engineering activities and project execution align with applicable OSHA, DOT, API, NEMA, NFPA, and company standards and safety requirements.
  • Assist with internal, external, and regulatory audits related to electrical systems, engineering practices, and safety.
  • Develop and maintain electrical drawings, technical documentation, process diagrams, procedures, and related engineering records.
  • Identify opportunities to improve electrical system reliability, operational efficiency, safety, and lifecycle costs.
  • Travel to field locations as needed to provide engineering expertise, troubleshoot issues, inspect installations, and support project execution.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • At least 5 years of professional electrical/power systems engineering experience.
  • Experience designing, analyzing, or supporting electrical power systems within the pipeline, energy, industrial, manufacturing, or similarly complex infrastructure environment.
  • Strong understanding of electrical distribution, power-system protection, and high-voltage equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing engineering projects and coordinating contractors or multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Certifications

Candidates with one or more of the following are preferred:

  • Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Certified Reliability Leader (CRL)
  • Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP)

The successful candidate will also be expected to obtain applicable PdMA Analyst, Thermography Level I, and CMM certifications within the first year of employment, as required by the organization.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of high-voltage electrical system design, analysis, and integration.
  • Experience with SKM Power Systems for electrical system modeling and analysis.
  • Working knowledge of GE Multilin protection equipment and software.
  • Experience with SEL relay systems and SEL Relay Software.
  • Ability to interpret and develop electrical engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with electrical testing, condition-monitoring equipment, and technical instrumentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard engineering/project documentation tools.
  • Working knowledge of API, NEMA, NFPA, OSHA, and DOT requirements applicable to industrial electrical systems.

What We're Looking For

The successful candidate will combine strong electrical engineering fundamentals with practical field experience. This person should be comfortable making technical decisions, managing competing project priorities, communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and stepping into the field when hands-on engineering support is needed.

Strong project management, analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills are essential, along with the ability to effectively coordinate internal teams, contractors, engineering partners, and regulatory agencies.
