Overview The Instructional Designer will be responsible for producing innovative, high-quality e-learning content in support of DSS's software products. This role requires the ability to independently oversee the full lifecycle of e-learning content production - from initial design conceptualization through finished deliverables, ensuring all materials meet professional standards and align with organizational objectives. The Instructional Designer will collaborate closely with DSS software Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to analyze and translate complex technical information into clear, accessible, and engaging end-user content tailored to our healthcare software clients. This position operates with minimal supervision from the Instructional Designer-Senior, requiring a self-motivated professional with strong project management skills, keen attention to detail, and a demonstrated ability to produce polished instructional materials in a fast-paced environment.

An Instructional Designer Will - Provide input and guidance in the areas of e-learning and instructional design to help DSS best position our e-learning content to meet industry needs.
- Work closely with SMEs to identify opportunities for e-learning content creation and the development of multimedia tools that enhance the overall learning experience.
- Create detailed storyboards and author engaging video and audio content for e-learning projects.
- Utilize industry-leading software tools to produce professional, high-quality media content in support of the company's sales and customer training initiatives.
- Edit and update existing e-learning content to accurately reflect product enhancements and software changes.
- Serve as a technical resource in all areas of media production, including recommended output formats, compatibility considerations with Learning Management Systems (LMS), and related technical items.
- Mentor and support e-Learning Developers within the team.

Security and Privacy Responsibilities Individuals working for DSS or any Subsidiary will be subject to security and privacy requirements as explained in HIPAA, FedRAMP, and NIST 800-53. Additionally, they are required to undergo specific FedRAMP training to ensure compliance with all associated controls and responsibilities in the day-to-day performance of their duties. Individuals working in departments that are considered to be in the high-risk category will be required to undergo advanced training based on their role and level of access. Individuals with access to modify data and the configuration baseline will require further training.
Required Skills - A strong grasp of written, oral, and visual communications with the ability to draft, write, produce, edit, and deliver professional e-learning content.
- Proficiency with industry-standard instructional design software, minimally including Adobe Captivate, Photoshop, and Camtasia.
- A solid understanding of video and audio editing techniques, including animation, graphic design, and text-to-speech manipulation.
- Demonstrated experience creating SCORM, HTML5, and 508-compliant training materials.
- Previous experience working with large corporate, governmental, or academic organizations to produce high-caliber e-learning content.
- A solid, demonstrable portfolio of existing work that reflects current skills and representative projects.
Preferred:
- Working knowledge of adult learning theory and Web-Based Training (WBT) methodologies.
- Facilitation skills to work directly with SMEs, software developers, and trainers to gather content requirements with little to no oversight from DSS management.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Healthcare or software industry knowledge.
- Experience developing e-learning content optimized for mobile devices.
Education - Required: Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Communications, or a closely related field of study.
- Preferred: Advanced degree (Master's) in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related discipline is a plus.
Certification(s) / Licenses Preferred: - Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) or Associate Professional in Talent Development (APTD) issued by the Association for Talent Development (ATD).
- Adobe Certified Professional in Adobe Captivate or related Adobe Creative Suite applications.
- Certification in Articulate 360 or equivalent e-learning authoring platforms.
- Completion of FedRAMP or NIST-related compliance training is a plus.
Certifications are not required but will be considered favorably during the evaluation process.
Years of Experience in a Similar Role Required: - 3-5+ years of professional experience directly developing e-learning and related multimedia content in an eLearning Developer or Instructional Designer capacity.
- A demonstrable portfolio of completed work is required for consideration.
Preferred: - Previous experience developing training content for healthcare or software industry clients.
- Prior experience working with federal government or VA programs is highly advantageous.
Compensation The salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $65,000.00 to $75,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of DSS, Inc.'s total compensation package for employees.
