Job Description :

The DevOps Engineer is responsible for driving the reliability, scalability, security, and automation of the Maryland Benefits platform. This role leads the design and operation of production-grade Kubernetes infrastructure, modern Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices, service mesh and discovery, and enterprise CI/CD pipelines. The engineer ensures seamless deployment of both legacy and AI-driven workloads while maintaining high availability, performance, and cost efficiency across environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture, deployment, and lifecycle management of highly available Kubernetes clusters on Amazon EKS.
• Design and implement immutable infrastructure using Terraform with modular, reusable IaC patterns across AWS environments.
• Implement and manage AWS App Mesh to standardize microservices traffic control, observability, and security.
• Architect and operate HashiCorp Consul for dynamic service discovery and distributed configuration management across hybrid environments.
• Build, manage, and optimize advanced Jenkins CI/CD pipelines, automating testing, security scanning, and deployments.
• Drive adoption of GitOps workflows for application deployment and Kubernetes configuration management.
• Strengthen platform security through IAM Roles for Service Accounts (IRSA), service mesh security, and Kubernetes network policies.
• Collaborate with AI and application development teams to support high-compute workloads, including LLMs and AI agents.
• Design and manage auto-scaling strategies (Karpenter / Cluster Autoscaler) to balance performance and cost.
• Troubleshoot complex distributed systems and implement self-healing, resilient infrastructure patterns.

General Experience

• Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in DevOps, Systems Engineering, or Software Engineering.
• Proven experience supporting high-traffic, enterprise-scale platforms.

Specialized Experience

• 5+ years in a Senior or Lead DevOps role focused on AWS cloud infrastructure and containerized platforms.
• Strong hands-on experience with Amazon EKS, including cluster upgrades, node groups, and security hardening.
• Deep expertise in Terraform, including custom module development and remote state management.
• Proven experience with Service Mesh architectures (AWS App Mesh) and Service Discovery (Consul).
• Advanced experience building Jenkins CI/CD pipelines, including Groovy scripting.
• Strong knowledge of AWS networking and security (VPC, Transit Gateway, IAM, Security Groups, NACLs).
• Experience using Helm for Kubernetes package management.
• Demonstrated ability to design resilient, scalable, and self-healing systems.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
