Role Overview:
We are seeking a senior Data Governance Consultant to design, implement, and mature our data governance framework. In this role, you will bridge the gap between business strategy and technical execution, ensuring our data assets are high-quality, compliant, and thoroughly mapped.
The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of health insurance data structures, hands-on experience deploying data catalogs via Microsoft Purview, and the technical fluency to query data and trace complex technical lineage using SQL.
Responsibilities:
1. Governance Framework & Lineage Mapping
· Define, establish, and maintain data governance policies, standards, and data quality metrics across our cloud data estate.
· Map data lineage from source systems (e.g., claims intake, enrollment, EMRs) through staging, data warehouses, and reporting layers.
· Work closely with data stewards and business owners to define business glossary terms and map them accurately to technical metadata assets.
2. Hands-on Technical Validation & Tooling
· Leverage Microsoft Purview to catalog data assets, configure automated scans, manage data maps, and enforce data classifications.
· Write complex SQL queries to profile data, audit transformations, and validate that data lineage matches actual technical pipelines.
· Investigate data quality anomalies and trace root causes back through ETL/ELT pipelines.
3. Healthcare Compliance & Domain Alignment
· Ensure data governance practices adhere to regulatory mandates including HIPAA, HITRUST, and state-specific healthcare privacy laws.
· Collaborate with teams tracking healthcare performance metrics (e.g., HEDIS, CMS STAR Ratings) to ensure data accuracy for critical regulatory reporting.
Required Qualifications & Experience
· Total Experience: 10–12+ years of experience in data management, data architecture, or data analytics.
· 5 years of experience in data governance and data analysis in healthcare or health insurance solid SQL/data querying skills to trace data lineage and validate transformations
· 1-2 years exp in Purview familiarity with Medicare Advantage and healthcare performance metrics (e.g., HEDIS, STARs) is a plus
· 1–2+ years of hands-on experience administering and configuring Microsoft Purview (Data Map, Data Catalog, Data Insights).
· Technical Skills: Robust, expert-level SQL querying skills to extract, analyze, and validate data across relational databases and cloud data warehouses.
· Exceptional communication and advisory skills; ability to articulate technical data governance concepts to non-technical business stakeholders and executives.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have)
· Direct familiarity with Medicare Advantage operational models.
· Working knowledge of HEDIS submission processes and CMS STAR Ratings metrics.
· Relevant certifications (e.g., CDMP - Certified Data Management Professional, Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Fundamentals/Purview configurations).
