Senior Project / Program Manager

Description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Project / Program Manager to lead complex technology initiatives in Chicago, IL. This Long-term Contract opportunity is ideal for a detail-oriented individual who can guide cross-functional teams, keep programs aligned with business goals, and drive delivery through structured project leadership. The role requires strong knowledge of Agile Scrum practices, effective stakeholder coordination, and hands-on experience using Jira to maintain visibility across timelines, risks, and milestones.

Responsibilities:

Direct large-scale IT projects and programs from planning through execution, ensuring objectives, schedules, and deliverables remain on track.

Partner with business leaders, technical teams, and external stakeholders to define priorities, resolve obstacles, and maintain clear communication throughout the project lifecycle.

Apply Agile Scrum methods to organize work, support team collaboration, and promote consistent progress across multiple initiatives.

Build and maintain detailed project plans, status reporting, risk registers, and governance updates to support informed decision-making.

Use Atlassian Jira to manage backlogs, monitor task progression, and provide accurate visibility into team performance and milestone completion.

Facilitate meetings such as sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives, and steering discussions to keep teams aligned and accountable.

Identify project risks, dependencies, and resource constraints early, then develop practical mitigation strategies to reduce delivery impact.

Oversee program coordination across concurrent workstreams and ensure outcomes meet quality expectations and business requirements.

Requirements

Proven experience managing enterprise-level IT projects or programs in a senior project management capacity.
Strong working knowledge of Agile Scrum principles and the ability to apply them in complex delivery environments.
PMP certification required.
Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage competing priorities across multiple initiatives.
Hands-on experience with Atlassian Jira for project tracking, workflow management, and reporting.
Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
Solid understanding of project governance, risk management, budgeting, and delivery oversight.
