Position Summary

The Requirements, Validation & Verification Engineer will support the development and delivery of Human Machine Interface (HMI) display solutions for Energy & Transportation applications.

This position is primarily a systems engineering, requirements, validation, and verification role , not a traditional software development role. The engineer will work across the product development lifecycle to translate customer and system needs into clear requirements, collaborate with software and systems teams, develop validation strategies, execute testing, document results, and verify that the final product meets defined requirements and quality expectations.

The role requires close collaboration with requirements leads, software developers, validation engineers, UI/UX teams, systems engineers, internal customers, and global engineering teams

Key Responsibilities:

Requirements Engineering
  • Work with internal customers, systems engineers, and technical leads to understand application and system needs.
  • Participate in requirements deep dives, design reviews, and technical discussions.
  • Develop, document, review, and maintain system and HMI software requirements.
  • Translate customer and system-level needs into clear, testable requirements and specifications for software development teams.
  • Collaborate with software developers to clarify requirements and resolve technical questions during implementation.
  • Work with UI/UX resources to define display functionality, workflows, and interface requirements.
  • Define interfaces between HMI displays and other electronic control modules and systems.
  • Maintain requirements as system designs, customer needs, and project scope evolve.

Validation & Verification
  • Develop validation and verification strategies based on system and software requirements.
  • Develop, document, and execute test plans and test cases.
  • Verify that implemented functionality meets documented requirements and intended system behavior.
  • Perform software and system-level testing, including functional, regression, sanity, endurance, and performance testing .
  • Document test results and validation evidence in accordance with applicable ISO and internal quality processes.
  • Investigate test failures and identify clear steps to reproduce defects.
  • Collaborate with software developers and systems engineers to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Support validation of software releases for complex HMI applications.
  • Develop automated test scripts to improve test efficiency, repeatability, and coverage.
  • Set up, configure, and maintain validation benches and required test equipment.
  • Support investigation and resolution of customer and field issues.

Quality & Systems Engineering
  • Participate in system-level and display-component Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) activities.
  • Identify potential failure modes and support development of appropriate prevention, detection, and validation controls.
  • Apply Built-In Quality (BIQ) principles to help contain defects and prevent issues from escaping to downstream teams or customers.
  • Support continuous improvement of requirements, validation, verification, and software quality processes.
  • Participate in design reviews, requirements reviews, NPI/CPI activities, and technical deep dives.
  • Maintain disciplined documentation and follow established engineering and quality processes.
  • Harness design

Key Competencies

The successful candidate should demonstrate:
  • Strong systems thinking and the ability to understand interactions between hardware, software, controls, and HMI components.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Commitment to quality, process discipline, and compliance.
  • Ability to translate technical and customer needs into clear, measurable, and testable requirements .
  • Ability to independently determine how requirements should be validated and verified.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective collaboration across engineering disciplines and global teams.
  • Ability to take ownership of issues and drive them through resolution.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The strongest candidate will combine requirements engineering, systems thinking, and hands-on validation and verification experience . They should be comfortable taking a customer or system need, translating it into a well-defined and testable requirement, working with development teams during implementation, and ultimately demonstrating through objective validation and verification that the completed solution satisfies the requirement.

This is not primarily a software developer position. Programming experience is valuable, especially for test automation, but the core focus of the role is Requirements Engineering, Validation & Verification, Systems Integration, and Product Quality .

Position's Contributions to Work Group :
  • To support the Current generation D6Cx and CMD displays as well as D7Cx Next Generation Display Program, the team requires a Systems Engineer focused on requirements development and validation.

Interaction with team :
  • In Person and Virtual (Global team)

Team Structure
  • Manager, Projects leads, Software architect, System Engineers

Work environment :
  • 50% Office and 50% lab
