Job Role and Responsibility: AMD Design LLC, a subsidiary of AMD, Inc., is hiring MTS Firmware Engineer to Research, design, develop, and/or test operating systems-level software, compilers, and/or network distribution software for semiconductor operations, applying principles and techniques of computer science, electronic engineering, and mathematical analysis. Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug computer software for electronic device hardware. Develop software and tools in support of electronic design, infrastructure and technology platforms, including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, and/or databases. Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for enhancements and new products. Develop new architecture diagnostic test strategy definition and test methodology studies. Develop software and tools in support of design, infrastructure and technology platforms, including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, utilities, databases, cloud-based and internet-related tools. Determine test strategies work with design teams to define test strategies that are software visible and testable. Determine hardware compatibility and/or influence hardware design. Work with cross-functional teams including engineers to develop computer systems-level software, working on problems of complex scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Drive projects or processes of significant technical importance. Exercise independent judgment to select methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Utilize knowledge of computers and electronics, including computer hardware and software, applications, and programming, as well as knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. Apply knowledge of engineering principles, best practices, and technologies to the design, development, and testing of various AMD systems and products.

Qualifications: Degree required

Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or related field.

Qualifications: Amount and type of experience required: Three (3) years of experience in the job offered or closely related engineering role.

Alternate combination of education and experience: Employer will accept alternate combination of education and experience: Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or related field and five (5) years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or closely related engineering role.

Specific skills required: The following skills are required:

Position requires three (3) years of experience in the following:
  • Low-level device drivers;
  • BMC development including user interface development or presentation layer development;
  • Server hardware interfaces and Industry specifications, including SMBI2C, PCIe, ACPI, DDR, IPMI, 10G/1G Ethernet, SATA, SPI, and I2C;
  • Processor and Enterprise system-level architectures;
  • Enterprise platform, BMC, Drivers, and IO technologies;
  • X-86 CPUs, memory controllers, IO Hubs, and PC architecture;
  • Board level diagnostic tools and utilities;
  • C coding and X-86 Assembly language;
  • OpenBMC or Redfish technology; and
  • Internal operations of Operating Systems and interaction with BMC functions.
