Red Hat Linux Administrator

Genesis10 is currently seeking a Red Hat Linux Administrator for a contract position with a Global Financial Institution located in Plano, TX. This is a 12+ month contract opportunity.

We are seeking a highly experienced Red Hat Linux Administrator to support large-scale patching, upgrades, and operational management of a 5000+ server Hadoop ecosystem running on RHEL 8.x and 9.x. The role requires strong automation skills, hands-on troubleshooting expertise, and the ability to operate effectively in a high-availability enterprise environment.

This position requires a Tuesday-Saturday or Wednesday-Sunday schedule, working either 5 PM to 1 AM CT or 10 PM to 6 AM CT. This role requires participation in off-hours and night shift activities to support scheduled patching windows.

Responsibilities:

• Perform OS lifecycle management, including software installations, kernel patching, system updates, OS upgrades, and library management
• Manage and maintain Linux file systems, ensuring performance, capacity, and integrity
• Execute and automate patching and vulnerability remediation using BladeLogic, Ansible, and Shell scripting
• Develop automation solutions to optimize repetitive operational tasks and improve efficiency
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to OS failures post-patching, system performance degradation, and filesystem inconsistencies
• Perform system failure analysis, recovery, and root cause analysis (RCA)
• Support hardware and software configuration management
• Provide production support and incident resolution in a large-scale distributed environment

Requirements:

• Approximately 5-8 years of Linux administration experience
• Experience supporting thousands of servers in a large enterprise environment
• Strong Linux patching and post-patching troubleshooting experience
• Hands-on support of physical/bare-metal servers
• Experience with server builds and vulnerability remediation
• Ability to access and repair systems through single-user mode, recovery consoles, or remote management consoles
• Knowledge of Linux services and troubleshooting tools, including SSSD, SSH, system logs, and service management
• Ansible experience is preferred; Terraform experience may also be helpful
• Previous banking or financial-services experience is preferred
• Previous experience with internal tools such as ITSM or Remedy is beneficial
• Collaborative, team-oriented mindset and willingness to learn

Desired skills:

• RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer) certification
• Experience with the Hadoop ecosystem (Cloudera / Hortonworks or similar)
• Experience with Enterprise system management tools
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking and Client-server architectures
• Familiarity with remote server management tools (DRAC, IPMI, Redfish, etc.)
• Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills in production environments

Pay range: $58.31 - $66.31 per hour
