We are currently seeking a Google Cloud Platform Architect on behalf of our client.
Position: Google Cloud Platform Architect
Location: 50-70% on-site in New York City (Travel will be paid for if not currently in New York City)
Duration: Contract-to-hire (will be converting this individual to a full-time Apex Consultant quickly)
Pay Rate: $90-130/hr on w2 basis (no c2c, no sponsorship provided)

Apex is seeking a highly skilled Google Cloud Platform Architect to design, implement, and optimize cloud-based data and analytics solutions. This role requires deep expertise in Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform) services, data architecture principles, and modern analytics frameworks to enable scalable, secure, and high-performance environments.

This role requires deep expertise in Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform) services, data architecture principles, and modern analytics frameworks to enable scalable, secure, and high-performance environments.
RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) and solution architect on Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform) technologies, guiding client stakeholders through design decisions, tradeoffs, and migration strategies.
- Compare and contrast Azure and Google Cloud Platform capabilities (cost, performance, compliance, analytics/AI) to support informed decision-making.
- Lead the architecture, design, and migration approach for client workloads into Google Cloud Platform, including hybrid and multi-cloud scenarios.
- Lead the greenfield build of modern data platforms that enable analytics, AI, and agentic solutions on Google Cloud Platform by developing architectures that leverage Google Cloud Platform services to support use case specific requirements.
- Provide hands-on technical guidance on cloud-native services (BigQuery, BigTable, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Looker, Vertex AI, etc.) as well as security, networking, and governance.
- Contribute to the Energy & Utilities practice and Technology & Experience Discipline by developing methodologies, accelerators, and best practices for Google Cloud Platform adoption in regulated utility environments.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (advanced degrees a plus).
- 8+ years of work experience, including at least 3+ years designing and implementing cloud solutions on Google Cloud Platform.
- Strong understanding of cloud data and analytics architectures, including batch and streaming data pipelines, data warehouses (BigQuery), and AI/ML services (Vertex AI, Agentspace).
- Ability to objectively evaluate Azure vs. Google Cloud Platform tradeoffs inclusive of Databricks deployments
- Proven success leading large-scale cloud migrations or greenfield platform builds (design through implementation).
- Familiarity with regulatory/compliance frameworks relevant to utilities (e.g., NERC CIP, data residency, security standards).
- Possess at least one Google Cloud Professional certification: Data Engineer, Cloud Database Engineer, Cloud Architect, Machine Learning Engineer
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence both technical and business stakeholders.
- Ability to document technical architecture and explain approach and rational to technical resources.
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capabilities.
- Willingness to travel to client sites as needed (up to 50-75% annually).
Nice to have:
- Experience working with large, regulated utilities (familiarity with NERC CIP, PSC, and related compliance requirements).
