Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Senior COBOL / RPG Developer with strong technical expertise in legacy system development, enhancement, and modernization. The ideal candidate must have deep experience in RPG (RPG III / RPG IV / RPGLE / Free-form RPG) and COBOL, with the ability to work independently in both onsite and offshore delivery models.

This role involves maintaining, enhancing, and integrating enterprise applications running on IBM i (AS/400) platforms while ensuring high performance, reliability, and scalability.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, enhance, and maintain applications using RPG (RPG IV / RPGLE / Free-Form RPG) and COBOL.
Analyze existing legacy systems and implement enhancements or modernization solutions.
Develop and modify programs, service programs, stored procedures, and batch jobs.
Perform impact analysis and provide technical design documentation.
Troubleshoot production issues and provide timely resolution.
Optimize performance of RPG and COBOL programs.
Work with DB2/400 for database design, queries, and optimization.
Develop and maintain CL programs and job scheduling processes.
Support data integration with external systems via APIs, flat files, or messaging.
Participate in code reviews and enforce coding standards and best practices.
Collaborate with business analysts, QA teams, and offshore/onshore teams.
Provide production support and handle incident management as required.

Required Skills & Qualifications

8+ years of hands-on development experience in RPG (RPG IV / RPGLE / Free-Form RPG).
5+ years of hands-on experience in COBOL development.
Strong experience working on IBM i (AS/400) platform.
Experience with DB2/400, embedded SQL, and database design.
Knowledge of CL programming.
Experience in batch processing, job scheduling, and performance tuning.
Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills.
Experience in system integration and legacy modernization.
Ability to work in a distributed onsite/offshore team model.
Strong communication and documentation skills.
