Summary

About the Role:
Grade Level (for internal use):
15 Global Head of Core Technology and Platforms
The Role
At S&P Dow Jones Indices (S&P DJI), our business is built on data, technology, and the uninterrupted delivery of critical index services to global financial markets. We are seeking a deeply technical and visionary leader to serve as our Global Head of Core Technology and Platforms.
This is a senior executive leadership role for a hands-on technologist who combines the architectural depth of a Principal Engineer with the operational rigor required to run mission-critical financial systems. You will define and execute the strategy for the foundational technology capabilities that power S&P DJI, including core technology and data platforms.
Leading a global organization spanning Core Technology and Platform Engineering, you will be responsible for ensuring the availability, scalability, security, performance, and resilience of critical systems that support index calculation, dissemination, and data delivery across global markets.
Your mission is to build and operate a world-class engineering foundation that accelerates innovation, enables developer productivity, safeguards critical assets, and delivers industry-leading reliability and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
Technology Strategy & Platform Leadership
  • Define and execute the roadmap for core technology and the data platforms.
  • Lead the architecture and evolution of high-throughput, low-latency, highly available systems that serve as the backbone of S&P DJI's products and services.
  • Drive adoption of enterprise initiatives such as AI, cloud-native architectures, Infrastructure-as-Code, automated CI/CD, observability, and modern developer tooling.
  • Establish and enforce engineering standards, architectural governance, and platform best practices that improve scalability, reliability, security, and developer productivity.
Cyber Security & Risk Management
  • Institutionalize security-by-design principles throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Oversee security architecture, threat modeling, vulnerability management, identity and access controls, and secure software development practices.
  • Ensure compliance with internal, regulatory, and industry standards related to cybersecurity, operational resilience, and technology risk.
  • Partner with Risk, Compliance, Audit, and Executive Leadership teams to strengthen the firm's cyber and operational risk posture.
Organizational Leadership & Talent Development
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop world-class engineering talent while fostering a culture of technical excellence, accountability, continuous learning, and innovation.
  • Serve as the highest-level technical escalation point and trusted advisor to executive leadership on data platforms and technology strategy.
  • Translate complex technical challenges and risks into clear business outcomes and strategic recommendations for senior stakeholders.
Required Skills and Experience
  • 15+ years of technology leadership experience, including software engineering, platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, security, reliability, or large-scale distributed systems, with 7+ years leading global engineering organizations in executive leadership roles.
  • Proven success in mission-critical, highly regulated environments, preferably within financial services, exchanges, market infrastructure providers, fintechs, market data organizations, or other real-time, low-latency technology businesses where uptime, performance, and resilience are paramount.
  • Deep expertise in modern cloud and platform engineering, including multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud Platform), Infrastructure-as-Code, container deployment technologies such as Kubernetes, CI/CD automation, observability platforms, and cloud-native architectures.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, building, and operating high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems with stringent requirements for availability, scalability, security, and operational resilience.
  • Strong knowledge of data platforms and modern data ecosystems such as data lakes, lakehouses, real-time streaming technologies, data pipelines, analytics platforms, and MLOps infrastructure.
  • Strong cybersecurity and risk management expertise, including secure software development, security architecture, threat management, regulatory compliance, technology governance, and operational risk frameworks.
  • A respected player-coach leader who can earn credibility with senior engineers through technical depth while effectively developing high-performing global teams and leading large-scale organizational transformation.
  • Exceptional communication and executive presence, with a demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and translate complex technical, operational, and security risks into clear business outcomes and strategic decisions.
