We are seeking a self-motivated, collaborative individual with a passion for cybersecurity, technology, and problem solving. As an Information Security Intern within HNTB's Corporate IT organization, you'll work closely with experienced security professionals to help protect the company's systems and data. You'll gain hands-on experience supporting real-world security initiatives while learning how enterprise security programs operate in a complex organization.
This internship provides exposure to key information security domains such as security operations, risk management, governance, vulnerability management, identity and access management, and security awareness. You'll learn foundational security concepts, how security controls are implemented and monitored, and how to think about risk and data protection in a large enterprise environment.
As an intern, you'll have the opportunity to learn and grow, so don't worry if you don't know everything right away. Be curious, ask questions, and take advantage of the learning experience!

What You'll Do:- Performs a variety of tasks which may be specific to a particular functional area of activity such as preparing reports, tracking and evaluating results, coordinating program developments, answering the phone, receiving messages, transmitting information, making copies, editing documents, handling routine inquires and making appointments.
- Participates in meetings and interfaces with various teams.
- Assists management in analyzing various data.
- Works on special projects and provides research as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need:- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent plus enrolled in a related undergraduate or graduate program
What We Prefer:- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in information security and risk management.
- Basic understanding of cybersecurity concepts such as network security, endpoint security, cloud security, or data protection.
- Familiarity with common security frameworks or standards (e.g., NIST, ISO, CIS) is a plus.
- Exposure to operating systems, networking, or cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform) is beneficial.
- Basic scripting or programming knowledge (e.g., Python, PowerShell) is a plus but not required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
What You'll Do:- Assist with monitoring and responding to security alerts, events, and incidents.
- Support vulnerability management activities, including scanning support, validation, and basic remediation tracking.
- Help document and maintain security procedures, standards, and control evidence.
- Participate in risk assessments, security reviews, and control testing activities.
- Assist with identity and access management processes, such as access reviews and provisioning support.
- Support security awareness and training initiatives, including documentation and content development.
- Help with security tooling administration and reporting (e.g., dashboards, metrics, and status updates).
- Collaborate with IT and business teams to support secure technology implementations and projects.
