About Us

The N.C. Department of Information Technology (NCDIT) serves as the Technology Center for the State of NC. Services that NCDIT provides reach a client base of state and local government agencies, as well as schools, colleges and universities. NCDIT's mission is to enable trusted business-driven solutions that meet the needs of North Carolinians. NCDIT provides technology services to state agencies and is charged with closing the digital divide by expanding availability of broadband services and promoting the adoption of affordable, high-speed internet.

Description of Work
Salary Range: $75,818 - $113,727

The position(s) is designated Statutory Exempt (EHRA) and is exempt from the State Human Resources Act.

This position may be eligible for hybrid remote work in accordance with state policy and the agency's remote work program but does require weekly onsite work.

Are you ready to take the next step in your career? We currently have two openings for a Network Analyst II (7577).

As a Network Analyst II with NC Department of Information Technology's (NCDIT) Network Support group, you'll help keep North Carolina's critical services connected-engineer complex WAN/LAN changes, resolve Tier-3 issues that others escalate, and guide agencies statewide onto the North Carolina Information Network with zero-downtime discipline. You'll blend deep routing/switching expertise with ITIL-driven change and release management to deliver resilient, secure, and performant network services that citizens and public institutions rely on every day.

This role leads the technical execution behind enterprise-grade network provisioning, incident resolution, and project delivery. You will coordinate with commercial carriers and state agencies; translate requirements into deployable designs; implement releases using controlled processes; and maintain authoritative asset/configuration records that enable accurate billing, lifecycle decisions, and proactive monitoring. Success looks like first-time-right deployments, fast root-cause analysis, clear documentation, and measurable service improvements across NCDIT's network offerings.

Key Responsibilities

Provision and implement complex network services - design, configure, and activate WAN/LAN solutions (including Metro Ethernet, MPLS, QoS, L3 routing, and L2 switching) while coordinating with carriers and agency partners to ensure seamless delivery
Serve as the Tier-3 escalation point - troubleshoot advanced network issues, perform root-cause analysis, and drive permanent corrective actions that improve stability and customer experience
Lead and support network implementation projects - develop deployment plans, ensure equipment readiness, manage cutovers, and collaborate across DIT teams to deliver reliable connectivity to state agencies
Apply ITIL-aligned change, configuration, and release management to ensure controlled, well-documented implementation of network updates and service enhancements.
Maintain accurate asset and configuration data - audit records regularly to support billing, lifecycle management, and operational monitoring
Conduct risk assessments - identify critical vulnerabilities, recommend mitigation strategies, and advise management on network policies, operations, and infrastructure improvements
Document and standardize network processes - maintain configuration baselines, diagrams, and runbooks to support operational readiness and consistent service delivery
Coordinate with vendors and service providers to meet delivery timelines, escalate issues appropriately, and ensure adherence to service expectations

About the Division

The Network Support team oversees implementation and configuration of all data (WAN) infrastructure including routers, DSL, data circuits, and switches. Duties include change management, configuration management, network management, release management, vulnerability management, IT service continuity and customer consultation. In addition, the team is responsible for ensuring adequate systems are in place and properly functioning to protect, monitor, analyze and support the state's information technology assets.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

The following Management Preferences are not required, but applicants that possess these skills are preferred:

Enterprise Routing/Switching experience - hands-on with Cisco routers/switches across enterprise WAN/LAN; configuration in OSPF/BGP, MPLS, QoS, Metro Ethernet; expertise with Spanning Tree Protocol(s) and ACLs across Layer-2/Layer-3 segments

WLAN & Monitoring Platforms Experience - supporting 802.11 WLAN (planning, security, and performance tuning) and administering network management/monitoring systems (e.g., HPNA Opsware, Spectrum, RMON II/Sniffer, SolarWinds or equivalent), including alert tuning and trend reporting

ITIL & Delivery Outcomes - ITIL Foundation certification and/or experience applying ITIL change/configuration/release and incident/problem processes in production environments plus
experience delivering WAN projects end-to-end with documented root cause analysis and risk mitigation results
