Job Summary

The EDP Quality Engineer is responsible for validating data as it moves through the Enterprise Data Platform - across ingestion, transformation, and processing - ensuring the right quality and integrity of data flowing into the gold layer for downstream consumption. EDP is built fully on Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Dataflow, Cloud Composer, Dataform, Cloud Storage etc.) and supports both the migration of workloads from our legacy on-prem EDW and the build-out of net-new enterprise data products across marketing, customer, and other business domains.

This is a senior, hands-on role. The QE designs and executes automated and manual tests, contributes to the team's quality approach in partnership with the EDP QA / QE Lead, and works shoulder-to-shoulder with Tech Leads, Data Architects, Data Engineers, Product Managers, Business Analysts, and SMEs to deliver trustworthy data products. The QE also participates in User Acceptance Testing alongside the QA function and supports release readiness for each delivery wave.

location: Telecommute

job type: Contract

salary: $65 - 67 per hour

work hours: 8am to 5pm

education: Bachelors

responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities

  • Validate data ingestion, transformations, mappings, and business rule implementation across the bronze and silver layers - covering both migrated workloads and net-new data products.
  • Perform source-to-target validation and reconciliation across source systems, the legacy EDW, and EDP - including row counts, aggregate parity, and field-level checks - and validate data quality dimensions on every pipeline (completeness, accuracy, consistency, timeliness, validity, uniqueness, referential integrity).
  • Build, execute, and maintain automated and manual data tests using modern frameworks such as Great Expectations, and Dataform assertions, and integrate them into CI/CD so quality checks run on every change.
  • Validate Cloud Composer DAGs and pipeline orchestration - dependencies, scheduling, retries, alerting, and error handling - across daily and micro-batch processing.
  • Monitor pipeline runs and operational data quality checks; triage failures, prioritize by severity and impact, and partner with Data Engineers on root-cause analysis and resolution.
  • Perform regression testing as code, schema, and configuration changes are deployed across environments, and own the defect lifecycle in Jira from intake through verification.
  • Participate in User Acceptance Testing alongside the QA function, Product, BAs, and SMEs - contributing to scenario design, execution support, and sign-off.
  • Contribute to the team's quality approach in partnership with the EDP QA / QE Lead - helping shape standards, tooling choices, test patterns, and the centralized test case and validation rule library within the workstream.
  • Support release readiness against defined quality gates, and perform post-release validation of pipelines and data products in production.
