The Principal Process Power Engineer will develop and implement Automation solutions focused on process power technology for the metals industry.

What you'll do

  • Analyze electrical loads and power usage to determine optimum performance windows
  • Sizing of transformers for AC and DC arc furnace applications
  • Consider magnetic field influences and associated grounding techniques
  • Review power system requirements for drive feeders and protection
  • Outline power regulation performance/response based on process applications
  • Support existing installed systems and assist customers with challenging technical issues through process knowledge, data analysis and implementation.
  • Complete assignments requiring development of new and/or improved engineering techniques and procedures
  • Interface and communicate with a local project team (project managers, engineers, support personnel) and internal experts from other areas as well as customers and suppliers to provide engineering solutions to technical issues and project-related matters
  • Mentor young engineers during project design and execution.
  • Perform on limited site commissioning and training as required

What you'll need

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Power Engineering
  • Extensive experience in an engineering role in the metals or a similar industry
  • Experience with automation, power and drive systems
  • Experience in automation practices
  • Demonstrates ability to apply engineering principles to the solution of design problems
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and mentor less experienced personnel
  • Be willing to travel to support the project work
  • Extensive experience at data analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as excellent computer skills
