Contract
Optum is seeking a Cloud DBA NoSQL to design, operate, and optimize large-scale NoSQL data platforms supporting the CCS 2.0 modernization program. This role is responsible for ensuring the NoSQL data platform meets stringent NFRs for availability, performance, auditability, and disaster recovery, while enabling audit-grade reprocessing and replay.
Key Responsibilities
Design, manage, and optimize NoSQL database platforms such as MongoDB and/or Azure Cosmos DB in cloud environments.
Ensure database platforms meet non-functional requirements for availability, scalability, performance, security, audit replay, and disaster recovery.
Support audit-grade reprocessing, replay, and historical data access patterns required for regulatory, dispute resolution, and operational investigations.
Define and implement replication, backup, restore, and DR strategies aligned to business continuity objectives.
Partner with application and data engineering teams on data modeling, indexing, consistency choices, and access patterns for high-volume workloads.
Implement monitoring, alerting, and capacity planning for NoSQL platforms, with appropriate telemetry shipped to enterprise observability and SIEM systems per standards.
Support production incidents and root-cause analysis, and drive continuous improvement for database reliability and performance.
Ensure compliance with data governance, retention, and security requirements for protected data.
Required Qualifications
8+ years of DBA or data platform experience with strong focus on NoSQL technologies.
Hands-on experience with MongoDB and/or Azure Cosmos DB (or equivalent managed NoSQL platforms).
Strong understanding of distributed data architectures, replication models, and performance tuning.
Experience operating cloud data platforms with HA and DR expectations.
Comfortable working in DevOps-oriented, product-focused delivery teams and collaborating across engineering disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in healthcare or other regulated industries.
Experience supporting audit/compliance requirements and large-scale historical datasets
Position 2:
We are seeking a hands-on Cloud DBA with strong expertise in MongoDB and Databricks to lead and support large-scale database modernization initiatives, including migration from Oracle and SQL Server to MongoDB-based architectures. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong data migration experience, and the ability to work closely with architecture, engineering, and business teams to deliver scalable and secure data platforms.
Required Skills:
8+ years of experience in database administration and data platforms
Strong hands-on experience with:
o MongoDB (cluster management, indexing, sharding)
o Databricks (Spark, PySpark, SQL)
Proven experience migrating:
o Oracle MongoDB
o SQL Server MongoDB
Experience with data modeling (relational & NoSQL) and schema design. Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT frameworks and data pipelines
Key Responsibilities:
Database & Platform Management
Administer and manage MongoDB clusters (replication, sharding, indexing, performance tuning). Support and optimize Databricks-based data platforms (Spark workloads, storage integration)
Ensure availability, scalability, and performance of NoSQL and distributed data systems.
Migration & Modernization
Lead end-to-end migration from Oracle and SQL Server to MongoDB. Design and implement data migration strategies including. Schema redesign (relational NoSQL)
Data transformation and validation - Cutover and rollback planning
Data Engineering & Integration
Build and optimize ETL/ELT pipelines using Databricks (PySpark / Spark SQL). Work with tools such as ADF, Airflow, or similar orchestration frameworks for data movement and scheduling
Enable data ingestion from multiple sources (files, APIs, relational DBs).
Performance & Reliability
Monitor database health, storage, and query performance. Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery (HA/DR) strategies. Troubleshoot data inconsistencies and perform root cause analysis
Governance & Security
Enforce data governance, access control, and compliance standards. Ensure secure handling of data across pipelines and environments. Implement audit, reconciliation, and validation controls
Collaboration & Leadership
Partner with architecture, application, and data engineering teams. Provide technical guidance during migration planning and execution phases. Mentor junior engineers and review deliverables
Desired Skills:
Experience with Azure ecosystem (ADF, ADLS, Synapse)
Familiarity with data lakehouse architecture (Medallion Bronze/Silver/Gold)
Knowledge of:
o Kafka / streaming frameworks
o CI/CD and DevOps practices
o Exposure to cloud-native database services (PaaS/IaaS)
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Excellent communication and stakeholder management
Ability to work in fast-paced, transformation programs
MongoDB certifications
Experience in large-scale enterprise data modernization programs. Prior consulting experience (client-facing roles)
