Job Description

CDM Smith is seeking an Electrical Engineer 1 to join our New York City office in 2027! This is an exciting opportunity for an early career engineer to work alongside industry-leading professionals on complex and meaningful projects.

As a member of our Electrical Engineering team, you will support the planning, design, and delivery of innovative infrastructure and facility solutions.

  • Under direct supervision, creates basic designs of electric master system plans, power system, protection and generation models, facility power systems, sustainability/renewable energy systems, and other similar electrical systems.
  • Performs studies of power systems and electrical calculations for electrical systems, lighting simulations, lighting layouts, communications, fire alarm, security and other similar calculations.
  • of basic complexity to meet client project requirements.
  • Assists with the selection and specification of electrical components including: motor control centers, switchgears, transformers, etc.
  • Reviews draft designs for compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
  • Ensures that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs.
  • Performs site reviews and studies, as needed, to ensure designs are aligned with location specifications.
  • Updates design requirements as necessary.
  • Contributes to firm's TKM by developing white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs, studies, etc..
  • Submits technical papers and designs for publishing to technical journals.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • May create or work with a team to create a poster or other presentation material for a conference.

Skills & Abilities

Basic Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices. Basic Knowledge of engineer principles of design. Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.). Good verbal and written communication skills.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or Electrical Technology or related discipline. 0 years. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Additional Pay Range Information

CDM Smith is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. This pay range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels for the geographic location assigned to the position. In addition to geographic location, a candidate's salary is determined by several other factors including, but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, relevant work experience, skills, required certifications, and education/training.
Additional Compensation

All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
