Job DetailsThe Mechanical Project Engineer provides engineering and project execution support across production and maintenance functions. This role manages projects from initial concept through installation, commissioning, and close-out while ensuring safety, budget, and schedule compliance. The engineer also supports equipment and process issues from a mechanical and thermal systems perspective.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide mechanical engineering support to production, maintenance, and support teams to meet plant objectives
- Manage assigned projects from scope definition and design through procurement, installation, startup, and close-out
- Develop written scopes, specifications, bid packages, and participate in vendor selection and bid reviews
- Coordinate engineering design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of new or upgraded equipment
- Support equipment and process troubleshooting, particularly related to mechanical, thermal, and combustion systems
- Safely manage capital and improvement projects ranging from approximately $10K to $5M
- Develop and maintain project schedules and track progress against milestones
- Prepare contractor safety documentation and lead required safety meetings
- Monitor project spending and provide budget updates to ensure financial compliance
- Contribute to long-range capital planning, including scope development and budget estimates
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in manufacturing, engineering, or project management
- At least 1 year of experience supporting thermal or combustion-related systems
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 or more years of experience in manufacturing or project execution roles
- 2 or more years of experience in thermal or combustion engineering
- Experience managing capital projects in an operating plant environment
- Strong understanding of mechanical equipment, systems integration, and installation practices
- Ability to work effectively with production, maintenance, contractors, and vendors
