Avionics Buyer / Sourcing Associate to join our Avionics Supply Chain team. Reporting directly to the Avionics Supply Chain Manager, this role is responsible for the end-to-end procurement of critical electrical, electronic, and electromechanical components that directly power our next-generation human-rated space stations.
This is a fast-paced environment with low structure and rapidly moving milestones. We are looking for an individual with an ownership mindset who thrives in ambiguity, learns quickly, and has a deep interest or background in electronic component manufacturing.
- Location: 100% Onsite in Long Beach, CA
- Position Type: 3 Month Contract-to-Hire (CTH) with potential extension or conversion
- Target Hourly Pay Rate: $35.00 - $45.00 / hour
- Target Permanent Salary Conversion: $65,000 - $90,000 USD (plus equity and our premium benefits package upon full-time conversion)
Responsibilities- End-to-End Avionics Sourcing: Support full-cycle procurement activities for electronic components, printed circuit boards (PCB), and printed circuit board assemblies (PCBA), including demand identification, vendor quoting, and purchase order placement.
- Supplier & Order Management: Manage suppliers and track open orders to proactively resolve lead-time issues, monitor schedule adherence, and ensure 100% on-time delivery of parts.
- Documentation Ownership: Formulate and maintain high-accuracy sourcing records, including RFQs/RFPs, bid analyses, vendor profiles, and purchase orders within our ERP system.
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Coordinate closely with Planning, Program Management, Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to track supply/demand signals and support production schedules.
- Cost Optimization: Identify cost-saving and lead-time reduction opportunities through basic bill-of-materials (BOM) cost analysis, pricing reviews, and value-focused sourcing recommendations.
- Strategic Support: Assist team leadership with source selection, contract negotiations, and localized supplier engagement strategies.
Minimum Qualifications- Experience: 0–3+ years of professional experience in sourcing, procurement, supply chain, or a related operational role (highly relevant college internships, co-ops, or engineering project teams are acceptable).
- Commodity Focus: Direct experience or foundational exposure to sourcing electronic components and assemblies (e.g., resistors, ICs, fasteners, PCBs, or PCBAs). Experience buying strictly non-electronic commodities will not be considered.
- Process Knowledge: Basic understanding of the procurement lifecycle (RFQ processes, PO lifecycles, supplier communication, and lead times).
- Soft Skills: High attention to detail, exceptional written/verbal communication skills, and a strong baseline problem-solving aptitude.
Preferred Skills & Experience- Target Backgrounds: Experience working in fast-paced startup environments or highly iterative, fast-learning engineering cultures (e.g., aerospace, EV, automotive manufacturing, or electronics manufacturing services/EMS).
- Education: A Bachelor''s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or a highly analytical field is preferred. An engineering background is highly valued for technical problem-solving.
- Systems Familiarity: Experience utilizing enterprise resource planning (ERP) software (such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, etc.) to issue purchase orders and track materials.
- Data Literacy: Ability to build basic cost comparisons from vendor quotes; familiarity with standard Bills of Materials (BOMs) and basic Incoterms is a plus.
- Cultural Fit: Comfortable managing multiple high-priority projects with limited direction, ambiguous inputs, and rapidly changing strategic timelines.
Additional Requirements- U.S. Export Control Compliance Status: The person hired will have access to information and items subject to U.S. export controls, and therefore, must either be a "U.S. person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.62 (U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents/s, or granted refugees/asylees).
