Job Description
Must Have Technical/Functional Skills
- Strong hands-on experience managing Hitachi VSP5600 enterprise storage arrays
- Expertise in Hitachi Ops Center (Administrator, Analyzer, Protector) and/or Hitachi Device Manager (HDvM)
- Knowledge of microcode/firmware upgrade processes for Hitachi storage arrays.
- Deep knowledge of zVT Optica virtual tape systems in z/OS environments
- Expertise in monitoring and troubleshooting virtual tape performance
- Strong knowledge of DFSMS
- Experience managing SMS-managed datasets, space management, and allocation troubleshooting
- Proficiency with DFSMShsm: backup, migration, recall, and recovery processing
Roles & Responsibilities
- Administer, support, and optimize the enterprise mainframe storage infrastructure utilizing Hitachi VSP 5600 storage arrays and zVT Optica virtual tape systems
- Maintain DFSMS policies, ACS routines, storage classes, data classes, management classes, and storage groups
- Ensure proper SMS-managed allocation and placement across VSP 5600 DASD volumesMonitor daily storage operations, including health, capacity, utilization, and performance of DASD and virtual tape environments
- Create, manage, and maintain volumes, device groups, RAID configurations, and storage pools
- Configure, manage, and support zVT Optica virtual tape libraries integrated with z/OS
- Administer virtual tape volumes, scratch pools, caching policies, and replication settings
- Monitor tape activity: mounts, dismounts, queue delays, drive allocation, and channel utilization
- Support DFSMShsm backup, recovery, migration, and space management operations
- Troubleshoot virtual tape issues including drive/channel errors, failed mounts, connectivity problems, or storage space constraints
- Participate in on-call rotation for 24/7 support of critical systems.
