The Bioanalytics Systems & Technologies Group focuses on driving analytic and Al/ML solutions that leverage vast and rapidly expanding biological datasets to address national security needs. The Group's efforts include developing software architectures and systems, bioinformatics tools, and AI algorithms to further the nation's efforts in biomedical, health, chemical and biological defense, biosecurity, public and global health and warfighter performance. The work of the group is highly collaborative and interdisciplinary. Accordingly, the backgrounds of the researchers and program teams are diverse. As a systems analyst, you will work with your team to understand and support success by providing recommendations regarding technology capabilities, requirements, architectures, and pipelines to provide guidance and meet the needs of the U.S. government in developing advanced technologies and algorithms. As needed, technology verification and validation may be conducted, which may also involve testing software and systems with users in realistic settings.

Job Description

The Group's efforts include developing software architectures and systems, bioinformatics tools, and AI algorithms to further the nation's efforts in biomedical, health, chemical and biological defense, biosecurity, public and global health and warfighter performance. The work of the group is highly collaborative and interdisciplinary. Accordingly, the backgrounds of the researchers and program teams are diverse. As a systems analyst, you will work with your team to understand and support success by providing recommendations regarding technology capabilities, requirements, architectures, and pipelines to provide guidance and meet the needs of the U.S. government in developing advanced technologies and algorithms. As needed, technology verification and validation may be conducted, which may also involve testing software and systems with users in realistic settings.

Our group is seeking a highly motivated and experienced staff member with strong systems-level thinking skills, and strong experience in one or more areas of modeling and simulation, systems analysis, data pipeline prototyping, and/or data science and decision support tools. You will help drive innovation by staying abreast of current technologies, investigating pros and cons of solutions, and prototyping. As Technical Staff, you will also be a principal investigator for projects, lead teams, define research plans, and provide technical and management oversight.

Job Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Statistics, Physics, or related scientific field, or equivalent experience in technical analysis. In lieu of a Ph.D., a master's degree with 7+ years of directly related experience will be considered. Additional experience beyond the Ph.D. is a plus.
  • Experience applying artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to answer either research question or practical technical problems
  • Ability to frame the "big picture" motivations and constraints around an issue, while knowing when and how to dig into the underlying details
  • Experience with biological data and developing solutions in AWS, data lakes/data warehouses a plus
  • Familiarity with data technologies in areas of data integration, data curation and harmonization a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and lead small to medium teams of diverse backgrounds and skillsets to execute your vision for program success
  • Demonstrated skills in scientific writing and development and clear presentation of technical materials to varied audiences of technical and non-technical backgrounds
  • This position is onsite only.

Recent Graduate Hiring Range: $145,200 - $170,000

Experienced Hiring Range: $145,200 - $220,000
