Java Developer (Sr level and mid level roles open)

Location: Fargo, North Dakota (Partial Remote)

Role Overview

You will join a team of developers focused on transforming a mission-critical insurance administration platform. You will help guide the migration from COBOL and VSAM-based mainframe technology to a modern Java-based architecture. This is a hands-on development role where you will contribute to solution design, architecture discussions, and software implementation while helping mentor other members of the team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain high-quality applications that support critical business processes.
  • Identify and propose strategies around technical problems affecting business, communicate standards, and get consensus on solutions.
  • Collaborate with the development team, architecture, and business partners to enhance software.
  • Lead the implementation of complex solutions and continuously refine them based on stakeholder feedback.
  • Participate in application architecture, design reviews, and technical decision-making for modernization initiatives.
  • Solve complex problems to create a positive customer experience.
  • Drive continuous improvement in both engineering practices and system capabilities.
  • Align technical solutions with broader business and modernization objectives.
Required Qualifications
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills and the ability to communicate with business partners and other IT staff.
  • Problem-solving skills sufficient to perform research and recommend a proposed solution to problems.
  • Able to work on multiple tasks and meet established deadlines.
  • Able to effectively direct and coordinate the work of other team members on a project without having HR management responsibility for them.
  • Knowledge of computer programming languages as required for the system.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A college degree in the field of computer science, information science, or management information systems is preferred.
