Wireless/RF Lab Technician

We are seeking a hands-on Hardware / Lab Technician to support an engineering organization developing advanced 5G and 6G wireless technologies. This position will support multiple engineering labs in Santa Clara and provide day-to-day technical and operational support across data center infrastructure, engineering lab environments, wireless testing, and hardware validation.
This is a highly hands-on role that combines server racking and stacking, hardware setup and troubleshooting, engineering lab support, wireless/RF testing, and prototype hardware validation. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently in a dynamic engineering environment and supporting multiple teams and projects simultaneously.
The primary focus of the role will be:
Data center and server racking/stacking
Engineering lab setup and testing
5G/6G and wireless testing support
Hardware validation and troubleshooting
The technician will support approximately 16 server racks, smaller wireless testing racks, prototype hardware, and staging areas used for engineering demonstrations and robotics-related equipment. This individual may also support specialized engineering teams with setting up demonstration environments and test configurations.
Key Responsibilities
Perform hands-on racking, stacking, cabling, installation, and deployment of servers, networking equipment, and other lab hardware.
Provide Level 1.5 Level 2 hardware support, including troubleshooting and replacing failed components.
Support the day-to-day operation and organization of engineering and hardware validation labs.
Assemble, configure, troubleshoot, repair, and deploy prototype and production hardware systems.
Support testing activities involving 5G, 6G, RF, and wireless technologies.
Set up and maintain test equipment, lab fixtures, server racks, networking equipment, and prototype systems.
Work with RF and wireless test equipment, including Keysight or similar 5G/wireless testing platforms.
Assist engineering teams with hardware validation, system bring-up, debugging, and test execution.
Support the setup of staging and demonstration environments for various engineering teams.
Maintain accurate inventory, asset tracking, documentation, ticketing, and hardware lifecycle records.
Coordinate with engineers, vendors, operations teams, and other cross-functional partners to support lab activities and technical requirements.
Follow established lab safety procedures and ensure proper handling of critical, prototype, and pre-production hardware.
Independently manage daily tasks and priorities while responding to changing lab and engineering needs.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of experience in an engineering lab, hardware validation lab, data center, wireless testing lab, or similar hands-on technical environment.
Strong hands-on experience with server hardware, PC components, networking equipment, cabling, power equipment, lab fixtures, and prototype hardware.
Experience with racking and stacking servers and networking equipment, including basic hardware troubleshooting at an L1.5 L2 level.
Experience assembling, configuring, troubleshooting, repairing, and deploying hardware systems.
Exposure to 5G, wireless, RF testing, or related test equipment.
Strong organizational skills with experience managing inventory, assets, hardware tracking, documentation, and ticketing systems.
Ability to work independently while supporting multiple engineering teams and priorities.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates will stand out if they have experience with:
Keysight test equipment or similar 5G/wireless/RF testing platforms.
5G or 6G wireless testing and validation.
RF test equipment and engineering lab environments.
Linux systems.
BIOS, firmware, BMC/IPMI updates and troubleshooting.
Networking and server bring-up.
Hardware debugging and validation.
Supporting R&D or engineering teams working with boards, silicon, platforms, or pre-production hardware.
Lab automation, scripting, inventory reporting, dashboards, or automated lab operations.
Supporting robotics, aerial, or other specialized engineering demonstration environments.
