This senior-level consultant partners with pharmacy leadership, clinicians, IT teams, and operational stakeholders to improve medication management workflows, optimize recurring maintenance processes, and ensure the Epic pharmacy solution supports safe, efficient, and compliant patient care.

The ideal candidate is a clinically experienced pharmacist and senior Epic analyst who can move between hands-on application build and strategic engagement with end users. This individual must be comfortable leading meetings, facilitating workflow discussions, gathering requirements, challenging existing processes when appropriate, and translating clinical needs into effective Epic solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a senior subject matter expert for Epic Willow Inpatient and Beacon functionality, workflows, and configuration.
  • Lead and perform design, build, testing, implementation, optimization, and ongoing support of Willow and Beacon applications.
  • Lead and perform hands-on Order Set, Treatment Plan, and Therapy Plan build and configuration.
  • Lead and actively participate in meetings with frontline clinicians, pharmacists, providers, operational leaders, and executive stakeholders.
  • Gather requirements and translate clinical workflows into appropriate Epic build.
  • Partner with pharmacy, oncology, nursing, providers, and other clinical stakeholders to design and validate treatment workflows.
  • Leverage professional pharmacy expertise to evaluate medication-use processes and translate clinical needs into Epic functionality.
  • Provide subject matter expertise related to inpatient pharmacy, medication management, oncology, and chemotherapy workflows.
  • Collaborate with pharmacy and oncology leadership to identify workflow improvements and opportunities to enhance medication safety and operational efficiency.
  • Assess the clinical and operational impact of proposed Epic configuration changes.
  • Ensure solutions support appropriate clinical, regulatory, operational, and patient-safety requirements.
  • Configure, maintain, and optimize Epic Willow Inpatient application settings, including medication records, medication dictionaries, order verification workflows, dispensing configurations, pharmacy queues, clinical decision support, and medication administration workflows.
  • Perform application build, testing, validation, and migration activities in accordance with organizational change management processes.
  • Develop functional requirements, workflow documentation, build specifications, test plans, and implementation materials.
  • Coordinate application dependencies and integrated workflows with other Epic teams.
  • Lead or participate in unit, integrated, regression, and end-user testing.
  • Support go-live readiness, cutover activities, go-live support, and post-live stabilization.
  • Proactively identify risks, dependencies, and decisions requiring stakeholder escalation.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues while meeting established service level agreements (SLAs).

Required Qualifications

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or equivalent pharmacy degree; license must be in good standing.
  • Current Epic Willow Inpatient (Willow IP) and Beacon Oncology Certification.
  • 5+ years of experience working with Epic applications, with significant experience supporting Willow Inpatient and Beacon.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting production Epic environments, application optimization, and operational maintenance.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with Epic Order Set, Treatment Plan, and Therapy Plan build, configuration, testing, and maintenance.
  • Proven ability to lead requirements-gathering and workflow-design sessions with end users at all levels, from frontline clinicians and pharmacists through operational leaders and executive stakeholders.
  • Experience creating standard operating procedures, technical documentation, and knowledge transfer materials.
  • Strong understanding of inpatient pharmacy workflows and medication management processes.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with clinical, operational, and technical stakeholders.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel to client sites as needed, including travel for implementations, go-lives, optimization engagements, and other client-facing activities.
