Location: Fully remote anywhere in the United States.
Employment Type: 5-months contract with potential to extend or convert.
Role Overview
This position is for a Senior Systems Engineer responsible for managing and maintaining the organization's computer systems and networks. The role involves vendor evaluations, modification of vendor-supplied utilities, and the creation of technical documentation for various software applications.
The Kafka teams manage and maintain all Kafka platforms at the client. We are organized into three teams: one dedicated to self-hosted Kafka platforms, another to Confluent Cloud (SaaS Kafka), and a third focusing on the cloud gateway and global DNS. With over 130 client applications leveraging these platforms for data streaming, our responsibilities include platform maintenance, automation, client support, production support, enabling self-service, enhancing current platforms, and introducing new capabilities.
As a shared service, our primary objective is to administer and manage Kafka platforms. We do not frequently engage in project work.
Each team follows Agile methodology and consists of scrum teams with 5-9 members, depending on the team. Team members participate in daily scrum ceremonies and frequently collaborate outside these ceremonies through paired programming, troubleshooting, issue resolution, and knowledge sharing.
Key Responsibilities
- Define system and product requirements, generating performance and reliability specifications.
- Lead the evaluation, design, and integration of system enhancements or new releases.
- Enhance processes, procedures, and policies related to system functioning and performance.
- Develop, modify, test, implement, document, and maintain systems software and hardware.
- Troubleshoot and resolve server, operating system, and other infrastructure problems.
- Monitor systems and networks for viruses, malfunctions, and errors.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and documentation.
- Train the engineering team on new systems, protocols, and best practices.
- Administer Kafka platforms on-prem and in cloud
- Coach junior team members
Required Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor's degree in a quantitative or business field such as statistics, mathematics, engineering, or computer science, or equivalent experience.
Experience: Requires 4 to 6 years of related experience in systems engineering.
Technical Skills: - Demonstrated analytical and project management skills.

Compensation & Benefits
The estimated pay range for this position is $65.00/hr to $70.00/hr.
